i hope evh doesn't have something serious but you can't rule out cancer that has spread already especially because he already had cancer, didn't get western medicine treatment for it and never stopped smoking.
He is a prime candidate for relapseWe're gonna leave you smokin like the slow guy in ChernobylComment

"Too much $$$ at stake.” They're gonna push Ed out there in a wheel chair if they have to. After this, my feeling is it'll all be over - for good.Comment

Ed didn't look fucked up or drunk. He looked frustrated. Some days the old Ed is there in top form and other days he just can't seem to play and the frustration deffinately shows. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

I wonder how much frustration could be because of his gear. He's turned into a marketer these days and isn't traveling with tried and true gear. He has a prototype guitar every night and an amp he developed while drunk as a skunk. This space for rent.Comment

And when Ed is off his game, it frustrates everyone else in the band as well.=V V=

To be honest, I would rather Ed be well than to finish a tour unhealthy for the sake of the $$. When push comes to shove it seems to always be about the $$$. Yeah, I wasn't very thrilled at the VIP tix prices for this tour, but I got over it, considering what it took to get something that seemed impossible to become a reality, minus the Bassplayer, that frankly, I got over quickly, considering this Tour would never happen had Wolfie not agreed to be involved (and know how to play Bass) AND Val's permission.
Nonetheless, I am hoping that Ed can overcome his demons and finish out his tour here in the states and go to Europe and abroad like I've heard their plans include. (I heard this thru a friend of Robert Yager, who is one of the "official" photographers for the tour.) VH is booked out until beginning of Fall '08.
I personally don't feel there is a publicity stunt going on here, but it does motivate me to try to capture the moment and see as many shows as possible, based upon Ed's good health.

It's not like they're giving him a Hondo & Gorilla amp.
Though the Charvel Strats still LOOK cooler than the Wolfgang body EVER will...:D
(Hate that wood...and a luthier was telling me recently it's basically BALSA wood by another name, the softest wood known to man...)
Neck screws and tremolo stud posts have a tendency to shift in (and in some cases, rip completely out of - under normal use) that wood type.
But then, I'm a wood snob - I hate guitars made out of poplar and alder too...:D In my experience, with the exception of Swamp Ash, lighter woods generally sound like shit...
And (B)asswood is barely even structurally stable, which is why it amazes me so many manufacturers are using it...
It's all Steve Vai's fault, dammit! :D Jems were the first mass-produced (B)asswood guitars!
As for the new amps, haven't tried one personally yet...while it didn't sound BAD at the show I saw, I remember when I saw them in '84 his tone was WAAAY less gainy, and BETTER overall...still didn't sound as cool as that Fresno '78 vid, though...
As shitty quality as that video footage is, it is STILL probably one of the best recordings of his live sound when he had "the" tone we all fell in love with...
Anyway, I hope he gets his shit back together again.Originally posted by conmee

This is a great & informative post!
I often wondered why Ed chose Basswood, after he had such great tone, previously, using ash bodies.
It is true that Vai sort of started the Ibanez/Basswood craze, and i figured only because this type of wood offered a lighter & more comfortable instrument onstage.
What were the Kramers made from?
My info is limited to Ed's Charvels & early guitars, something i find myself obsessed with.
As for amps, i only wish EVH had gone the Marshall route.
I think they do some great signature amps, especially hearing the new RR model.
I always associate Ed with that plexi, man.
That 78 tone was as good as it gets, imo.Comment
