Valerie Bertinelli denied that ex-husband Eddie Van Halen is in a rehabilitation facility, but declined to reveal his mystery ailment.

"The reports about him being in rehab are wrong. Eddie is sober," Bertinelli said at a luncheon hosted by the Hallmark Channel in New York on Wednesday. "He's being proactive about his illness."

Asked to elaborate on the musician's ailment, which has caused several of Van Halen's tour dates to be postponed, Bertinelli said, "I don't think it's my place [to comment.]"

Last week, the band posted a statement on its Web site saying, "According to Eddie Van Halen's physician, he is undergoing a battery of comprehensive medical tests to determine a defined diagnosis and recommended medical procedures."

Bertinelli says she's been in contact with her ex, with whom she has a 16-year-old son, Wolfgang. "I talk to him about every other day. He wants to get back on tour," says Bertinelli. "I think they'll be back on the road by April 19."

If I had to guess, I would guess it's an issue with his hands. They would want to keep this as tight-lipped as a substance abuse issue. The official release said they were setermining the proper treatment. My guess...therapy. If that doesn't work...surgery.

I hope Valerie is telling the truth about Ed not being in rehab. If she is telling the truth, then it leads one to believe Ed's medical problem is the recurrence of cancer, meniere's disease(associated w/hg.loss), arthritis in his hands, hip problem-again. Who knows, but its not a good sign for those of us who bought tickets for shows that have been cancelled/postponed.

Obviously, its too much to ask for Ed to give us a legitimate update on his health. But if he does show up for the Tiger Woods Jam in Vegas, I've lost all respect for him. ie: He'll get himself 'fixed' to play for Tiger Woods, but doesn't give a damn about the rest of the fans.

Sorry, I'm just a little pissed off about Edward, he/VH have postponed 2 shows in my town. I don't know what to believe anymore.

In all honesty, I'm not quite sure what to believe anymore about Ed, either. I don't wish the guy any ill-will, but am not ready to jump on the sympathy bandwagon for him JUST yet.

The dude blew off 12 years getting this thing together with Dave, so he's always gonna be making up for wasting time far as this fan goes.

I don´t know that much about various types of substance abuse and the effects of it but somehow it wouldn´t surprise me if Ed has Hepatitis of some sort. Steven Tyler has had (and still has I think) a long battle with this. I believe Ed is more an alcoholic but he has also been doing ALOT of coke, he could have fucked around with other stuff to... wasn´t there a rumor earlier of Alex doing smack?
This is all speculation, just thought I´d share some thoughts.
Whatever the case I wish them all a good bill of health, they do deserve that in book, even if they have played with Bette Midler ; )

I got a call from a buddy today who buys autograph's from a guy in California who has close ties to Eddie. He told my buddy Ed is having cancer related problems. My buddy has been in the music biz for years and alot of the info he has given me over the years has been true !!! I hope this is bad info this time but I don't think this guy would lie to my buddy. Plus all of his Eddie autographs are not for sale at this time !!!
