SO I've found about $150 worth of bullshit I'd find the milk-money to blow on Van Halen in less than a couple months.

They should ding me a stipend or some shit. Watch Jeanie read this post and suddenly have a few brainstorms, huh?

I used to think Van Halen was a hungry band to out own the planet, now I'm thinking the best thing VH ever did was leave piles and piles of money on the table. Not necessarily the glass, dusty, licked-clean coffee table in the den - that's a whole 'nuther pile and a whole 'nuther thread innit.

Maybe the two are related.. can you tell I'm pissed, anyone?

On the theme, I'm pretty sure they'll put out a kick-ass album sooner than we may believe, if things go well in the studio, the first 6 albums sure didin't take more than a couple of months

Dave attempted to sing a Desmond Child`s composition at the sessions, because Ed/Al, and Mike, demanded it. They were looking at a whole album at the 1996 sessions!
However, MWM and CGTSNM are all Dave`s lyrics!

Plot summary

The story of Rip Van Winkle is set in the years before and after the American Revolutionary War. Rip Van Winkle, a villager of Dutch descent, lives in a nice village at the foot of New York's Catskill Mountains. The 2007/2008 surpassed my expectations, in terms of vocals/playing/hair and clothes.
I hope Dave/Ed still have the hunger, to go into the studio, and cut, the greatest Van Halen album. although they have made millions of $ on the latest tour, I want Van Halen to prove they are still cutting edge, recording artists. If I was Dave, i would want to go out on a high, and prove that Van Halen are the greatest rock band!

suppose it is a positive thing Ed is mentioning Roth's name as a member of the current lineup...it WOULD be a bit funny if Dave told Ed, "Thanks, but no thanks...don't really want to record a new album or tour anymore, but best of luck and God bless!"

If the upcoming interview instead had Ed announcing he and the band were retiring, as a fan I'd be fine with that.

Made my peace with this band no longer being worth getting hyped up over several years back, and the recent semi-reunion tour was hardly among the best series of shows the band ever did live...

1996? Yes, I was psyched, and for much more than just those two songs. MWM and CGTSNM were a great starting point, and if that was just the band getting warmed up after more than ten years of having written and played together, I say that the fact they were as good as they were (considering all the eggshells Roth had to walk on in terms of dealing with Van Halen's then-current managers, producers, songwriters, etc.) is proof that when Roth and Ed did get it together the result transcended all the bullshit.

This ain't the 1996 Eddie anymore, though.

I think Ed is pretty much washed-up. Nothing Ed has done in the last 13 years has really given me much reason to consider otherwise. Unlike as recently as 1998, he's not even capable of playing the CVH tunes properly live anymore (of if he is he can't be bothered, which amounts to the same thing), and his drinking problem has gotten the better of him. When he was younger, he could pound them back and still play like a motherfucker. Not anymore. That fucker showing up drunk to the gig I saw last year and botching tunes he should have been able to play in his sleep was the final wake-up call for me; this guy is toast.

If they put out something new, I'll check it out. The days of frantically reading tea leaves, consulting my astrological charts and throwing my hands in the air in prayer that CVH will put out new music are done. I just don't give a shit anymore. I don't think they (the Van Halens) have it in them to put out anything decent anymore, and I already saw the greatest hits reunion tour, so they have nothing left to give me unless it's releasing vaulted material.

Eddie blew it. Oh well. Shame, too.

Still, I'd like to see what would happen if/when they (Dave included) really hunkered down and get serious to make a new album....

Frankly, and probably not surprisingly, I don't think Ed had ANY motivation behind really making some good music.... Although it wasn't "Fair Warning Tour" worthy, I think it was pretty apparent that Ed put a lot of effort into getting ready for the tour.... I sure would like to think that having Dave back in the loop, with a new tour in mind, would provide some extra motivation that frankly he hasn't had in a long time...

Yeah, well, charging $100 a pop for tickets should have been all the motivation Ed needed to play well...and he seemed to be doing okay at the beginning of the tour...

In the months leading up to the tour, I wondered if both Ed AND Dave really still had what it took to charge those prices beyond simple name recognition and long-awaited anticipation. Hey, for some people it might have been enough that Dave and Ed were onstage together again. I can understand that. It's easier to set the bar low in terms of expectations. Dave turned in good performances at the several shows I'd seen in the years prior to the 2007-2008 Van Halen tour, but my expectations were a bit higher for that VH tour than they were at, say, paying $10 a ticket to see Dave play at the St.Pete Ribfest a few years back.



Far as I could tell, Dave put in the preparation and gave a 100% effort to provide the best performance he was capable of. Same goes for that cunt Alice. Wolfie I could barely hear in the mix. Ed was running around 65% at best, with sporatic flashes of about 85%.
