DLR ranked 8th in poll of "Top 10 Rock 'n' Roll front men"

Grabbed this off the VH News Desk....

Top 10 Rock ‘N’ Roll Front Men: David Lee Roth
    Wednesday, 1 April 2009

AskMen.com has a new “Top 10″ list of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll front men of all time. David Lee Roth was their eighth pick. Of course we think he deserves to beat most, if not all of the others on their list, but at least they didn’t make the mistake of leaving him out of the Top 10!

    By Nathan Atnikov from AskMen.com:

You can have the chops, you can have the songs and you can have the savvy, but if you don’t have an engaging front man, you’ll never be one of the biggest bands in the world. AskMen’s top 10 rock ‘n’ roll front men salutes the 10 most charismatic, spotlight-drawing lead singers in history. If time, age and rock genre were no object, these are the 10 rock ‘n’ roll front men that would be leading us into the future.

    No.10 - Steven Tyler
    No.9 - Axl Rose
    No.8 - David Lee Roth

David Lee Roth made a career out of being a ridiculous, loveable dork. Only after Sammy Hagar turned Van Halen into a bunch of sourpusses did we realize how much we loved Diamond Dave. Powered by Roth’s outsized personality, Van Halen became one of the biggest bands of the late ’70s and early ’80s, and Roth himself became known as a must-see performer thanks to his wild antics, howling voice and spinning rock-star karate kicks.

Roth left Van Halen in 1985 (either forcibly or of his own accord), inciting the single most classic rock ‘n’ roll argument of all time — Roth or Hagar? Where you stand on that issue pretty defines what you are as a rock fan, though cultural memory seems to recall Roth much more fondly than the man who replaced him.

    No.7 - Trent Reznor
    No.6 - Ozzy Osbourne
    No.5 - Thom Yorke
    No.4 - Bono
    No.3 - Mick Jagger
    No.2 - Freddie Mercury
    No.1 - Robert Plant

Trent fucking Reznor at #7 over DLR?

I don't think so. Some of NIN's shit is OK...but no fucking way does Reznor outrank DLR on any level.

But...the upshot is....that Hagar is nowhere on the list.

Trent Reznor, Thom Yorke and Bozo, with Stephen Tyler LAST ??

I'd put Hagar over those three dorks!

Trent Reznor isn't a great frontman in the traditional sense (leaping around the stage and generally creating a party vibe), but he is great in his own way. That guy is intense live, and you can't take your eyes off him. Not sure he makes the top ten, but he's a damn good frontman.

I wouldn't put Trent Reznor or Thom Yorke in the top 10, but the other 8 on the list seem like reasonable choices - though I'd probably rank them differently.

And Binnie's right.... I'd put Daltrey and Iggy on instead of Reznor or Yorke.

Steven Tyler? Only if you're going by his 70's work.

Honorable mentions: Johnny Rotten, Joey Ramone, Joe Strummer

I saw Steve Tyler on Nantucket island last summer (literally almost bumped into him) and let me tell you he is one frail looking, little gray skinned man in a sarong. His woman was very hot though. Probably ridden with Hep C

Dave is the solid number 3 on that list, with a large gap to number 4.

                    Mick Jagger
                    Freddie Mercury
                    DAVID LEE ROTH!!!

I'd put Bruce Dickinson & Rob Halford over Ozzy...unless you enjoy waving side to side or have a fetish with getting shot with a hose.

Daltry should be there for sure.

Poor Nathan. His jealousy runneth over, like the Niagara falls.

I'll bet he's a Elvis Costello-lookalike... model citizen, extremely disciplined, grew up square...

Propably jerking off over his Coldplay cd's, even as we speak.

Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

I had to groan you again...

I like your choices of Bruce, Rob and Daltry but you gotta give ozzy some props...

Ozzy is a legend and was the Man right up there with the best of 'em in the 70's and early 80's...
