I heard a version of little dreamer posted here from the 2007 tour that
was the best live version I have heard of that song ... ever....
Dave has had some vocal coaching and he is one dedicated mofo...
The star of the tour for sure (And Eddie when he was "on")
BABY PANA 2 IS Coming !! All across the land, let the love and beer flow !

You Know?; I heard that version of "Little Dreamer", too. Atleast, I think I did. I can't remember where, though. But I do know that there was a heated argument between fans and non-fans about when it was recorded. I'm sure as Hell it was from 2007! And Dave sounded fantastic!!! I have "Strumming With The Devil" and he sounds great on that, too. Good control.

Only half true. Back then Dave only sang the chorus's.

I remember Dave getting vocal coaching around the time of "Y.F.L.M." His newfound octave was all over the album almost to the point of being annoying.
Little Dreamer was ok ,but I would rather have seen them do "Feel your Love Tonight"...
I think the audience was split between Ed & Dave as the star of the night.
I found Dave to be a little bit too polite and gentlemanly in his stage mannerisms.
Next time out (if there is one) it'd be good to see him loosen up and goof off a bit more...
Back int he original CVH days ,it never bothered me that he missed spots in the vocals. He was busy entertaining and puttin on a hell of a show ,and that was good enough for my concert dollar. ($10.50 cdn.):tongue0011:

I was looking for a few, "Im gonna fuck your girlfriend pal" and less cabaret jackets from the YFLM tour. In fact the best he looked on tour was all in black with his shades. I think people wanted to see some of the things they used to do on stage. I dunno. Jumping. Crotch-chopping, hip thrusting Dave, shaking his ass, telling people to fuck off. Throwing that vibe.

Christ it almost sounds like a porno.

          Someone alert Flappo.

Was wondering myself if Roth was gonna be up for the 2007-2008 tour...

Had seen him in small venues a few times between 2002 and 2006, and while I wouldn't have said his voice was shot (if anything, he sounded better in 2005 and 2006 than he did in 2002), I wouldn't have said what he was doing live in 2005 or 2006 was up to the standards I had in my own mind as a fan for what I'd expect of him re: a Van Halen reunion.

Well, Roth took the reunion seriously and did his homework, because at the show I saw he came out and sang...SANG...more verses than he ever had even back in the CVH days. I agree with Jerome that Roth's reduced acrobatic mobility probably was the reason behind this, but that was fine by me (his kicks and drum riser leaps clearly weren't as effective anymore in the last few years before the reunion, so it was just as well they were pretty much dropped - better to do only a few and have them look good than try and do a lot and have them look a bit shabby).

Frankly, Roth's pipes and vocal delivery were much better on the Van Halen tour than I thought they would be. The man came out ready to play and give his best, and it showed.

Eddie was just a half-drunken mess on the night I saw him. Decent for the first four or five tunes, then went downhill. The excellent work Roth was displaying was being negated by an inebriated former guitar hero was was becoming a shadow of his former self right before my eyes. After all the bullshit from the Van Halens in the press over the last ten years about how "Dave wasn't up to it", "Dave's washed up" and "some things are better left to memory"...what a fucking con! From what I saw and heard, it was EDDIE who clearly wasn't up to doing the standards of CVH any sort of justice these days.

That guy should be ashamed for participating in charging $100 a ticket to see that crap (Alex played well, I must say), and at times it almost looked like Dave was a bit embarrassed as well.

the first show we went to in glendale, eddie was great. his solo was mesmerizing. few months later in vegas before new years, he was pathetic. it hurt to watch and listen.

Roth really doesn't NEED the acorbatics these days - he oozes charisma, and has pressence.

We all wanted Dave back in VH. That's really where he belongs.

The pink elephant in the room is that there isn't much left of VH to get back "in".

Probably during the EMT stint. Veteran gut scrapers explained in detail how his screaming was innapropriate in critical situations or whatever. They were all like, "Dave...we know the motherfucker needs a bag of ringers....go lower on the woahhhh heeeeyar yelp, mmmkay?"

What a shame he didn't use the Frankenstrat more during the tour. Sounded so much better than those Wolfgangs.

I agree , the Frankie sounded pretty damn good. I saw them the 3 times they played Toronto in '07 before Ed's wheels started to fall off on the tour. Can't say I was very impressed with his playing, having witnessed him numerous times in the CVH era. But I did get a few decent pics. ...
