So Van Halen won't fucking ever release this show,
and it's not availiable anywhere,

It's due to some breakdown in fees paid between WB and Youtube... as a result all WB owned video has been yanked.

Remember, Universal Music Group announced last week that it's own "channel" will soon appear at Youtube, to be owned by UMG with start-up costs and profits split between Youtube and the company. Coincidentally (or not), Time/Warner signed a deal with Adobe last month to produce Flash traffic for a handful of it's websites. The upshot being this could be reasoned as a first step in Warner creating it's own form of Youtube, and would remove the neccessity of sharing profit with anyone. As a result, removal of it's properties from Youtube would be the logical first step, no matter what notion of "artist's rights" has been floated publicly.

The action still does not explain or warrant the removal of the Argentina videos, unless the band or label actually has some plans to release them in a long form compilation. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it, though. After all, VH fans' best interests are far better served through tennis shoes, ya know?

You know, even though it's over reaching crypto fascist corporatist bullshit, I can understand a corporation complaining about content that they actually MADE ending up in an environment that they can't control.

But Warner Brothers doesn't have one god damned thing to do with the Argentina videos. Just like Allen Klein & ABKCO have no claim on anything the Rolling Stones did after 1970, yet they routinely pull the Stones clips from 1972-73, which is the best live work the Stones ever fucking did. And tragically, not available for sale anywhere. (Well at least not officially)

I don't even bother posting videos on You Tube anymore because they get zapped immediately, whether there's a VALID copyright claim or not.

And the goddamn labels' own YouTube channels are useless, because 90% of the time, they won't let you embed the content elsewhere (such as here at the Roth Army)

I'm sure Google's legal department has made the decision to err on the side of the corporations in any dispute, so they'll continue to be pussies about this, but that doesn't make it right, god damn it.

All the ownership rights to one side, I have no problem with people swapping boots or posting old shows of Van Halen for free viewing.

If the band or WB doesn't want to do the fans the courtesy of cleaning up and putting out that old material that we want to see (and actually make a few bucks in the process), fuck 'em.

Van Halen’s label, Time/Warner has meanwhile found itself caught up in a year long dispute with YouTube which lead to the removal of all Warner Brother’s content.


The label has now announced a new partnership with internet gurus Adobe Systems, in the hope of building a new site to feature Warner Brother artists.


As a result, videos from the likes of Van Halen that disappeared from YouTube, could soon reappear in a new format.
