Cool beans. I just always thought VH1 should have had more happening with the cover, personally...opinions and assholes, etc...

A rare album cover proof for Van Halen’s first album with their original logo has gone up for auction on eBay with a ‘buy it now’ price of a cool $2,500.

The seller, ‘da4ever’, states: ‘This is an unbelievable Van Halen collectible that I obtained from Noel Monk, Van Halen’s Manager from 1978-1985.

‘Cannot believe I am selling this, but circumstances sometimes suck, so it’s time to let go.’

Only six of these covers were ever made, the seller claims.

He adds: ‘The reputed story is that David Lee Roth spotted a Sex Pistols similar pose and requested the same for his cover. When this version was done, he rejected it as he thought it was too punky.

‘Noel also told me that Alex [Van Halen] hated his photo, it made him “look like a giant”.’

He’s got a point. Check out the auction here.

Those inspired to pick up guitar by listening to Ramones, Pistols or The Clash can fuck off.

You could cite Kurt GoBrain, or Billy Joe Armstrong as examples and that's about it because they did indeed pick up the instrument it is true.. but they never learned to tune or play it.

I'm rarely amazed with these things, yet this captured my interest.

I have some Picasso prints, supposedly worth only a couple hundred a few years ago are now up about a grand, yet the very same prints with his pencilled signature gets double.

Betcha, if the seller were to get the signature of all 4 VH bandmates and sit on them for another decade and kept the prints out of the light they'd do way way bigger numbers than just a grand right now.

He must be desperate to sell now, before a tour, unsigned.

To have one of these on the wall, signed, would mean alot more than having all six Van Halen albums on the wall to me at least!

This is probably one of the most killer collectibles I could think to own for a VH fan, properly framed. It's just the best conversation piece ever.

According to that DVD the Early Years... that was Mark Stone's logo design.

WTF is up with Alex's hands in that picture?

I hear what you are saying Gar, but would be more desireable if it had some sort sort of WB markings/logo/track list etc.

As it stands all I see is a cardboard pic with a back story from the seller.

That said, It did fetch a Best Offer of US $1,750.00.

Not bad for a cardboard pic!
