Van Halen’s Old Logo Surfaces Yet Again « Idolator: Music News, Reviews, And Gossip


Another old version of Van Halen’s first LP–with the old, awkward logo, but without the Sex Pistols-inspired band shot–has surfaced on eBay, this time from a British seller. Bidding is at £70 right now, and I guess the dollar’s rebounded a bit because according to eBay equal to one hundred and five good old American dollars (and a couple of quarters). The auction closes Saturday, which means there’s plenty of time for it to reach the four-figure range. So save that change! [eBay via Sleaze Roxx]

Pretty rare... I'd only heard of 1 in public circulation prior to the 2 that have surfaced in the last month. I question the 2000 pressings claim... I don't think that many were produced or if so only a few distributed.

I have an original 1978 copy still sealed !!

I'm holding it in my lap as I type, but I almost had a heart attack when I went to dig it up and couldn't find it. I thought it was in a very secure package that I recieved some Parliament albums in and it was empty...

But I found it...:tongue0011:

My brother found it hanging on the wall at a pawn shop in '05. He never told me what he paid for it, he just said it wasn't cheap...

I've been wanting to build a cool frame to display it properly, and I will include that photo in the process...

I am gonna go out on a limb and say 100 to 200 pieces.

These were radio promos, handouts were rare and the corners on the shrinkwrap, and the gloss of its texture invite me to speculate it's a re-shrink but that's fine! Who cares - low count circulation, initial prerelease EP.. promo status.

This is pretty rare. 30 per box, one per member plus one mailed to each AOR-FM rock station at the time? 250 max.
