I know Ed/Al will never go public, with the fact that Mike and Sam taunted the Van Halen brothers, by not attending Mrs Van Halen`s funeral. Ed and Al moved quickly to punish Anthony, by replacing him with Wolfgang. Anthony found out he had been replaced, by listening to the Howard Stern interview in 2006.
Ed shocked and outraged some Van Halen fans with his degrading comments about Anthony, in the 2006, Stern interview.

The fact that Anthony did not attend Mrs Van Halen`s funeral, will have offended Ed and Al personally. It`s not the sort of thing anyone really speaks about in public. That thou, is like spitting in the face of your friends! Mullet had known the Van Halen`s for about 30 years+, at the time of the funeral.
I don`t think Mullet Anthony will ever appear on the same stage as the Van Halen`s again!

Whatever the reason is or was for MA not to be in the band any longer I can care less. MA was always to me the one member of the band that they could do without and it wouldnt matter. High back up vox? Big fucking deal how bout some solid bass playing. All of the live clips I have ever seen with MA were sloppy. He always had high end bass tone that was sounded like shit. Even Nikki Six sounds better just from his tone alone.

I liked Mike's tone and playing on the early albums and tours. He really went for it in those days but after Fair Warning he started to get cheesy and my God was that dumb bass solo a joke.

Believe it or not, most of the idea of Mike's bass solo was actually something Dave came up with, not Mike.

I recall reading about this in a 1998 interview with Dave. Around 1981 or so, the band was trying to find a way to give Mike his own solo spot. Dave had the Ice Cream Man thing (and later his tai chi dance/sword routine), Eddie his guitar solo and Alex his drum solo.

Dave and the rest of the band knew Mike didn't have any technical prowess on the bass so Dave came up with the idea for him to add some sound effects and run and jump around like some crazy madman. Of course, in later Van Hagar tours the routine got stale really fast. Which may be part of the reason why it was dropped by the time they went out on tour with Ga y C.

Certainly wasn't the smartest way for Anthony to go about positioning himself for being asked to rejoin the group for future projects, but being asked to play with the band in 2004 only because Hagar insisted should probably have been enough of a clue to MA that the Van Halens didn't want him around anymore to begin with.

MA probably thought by 2005 that the Van Halens doing anything with Roth down the line was a remote possibility (they had already had 3 abortive attempts to reunite with Roth at that point), and even if they did manage to pull it together with Dave they would naturally ask Mike to play bass.

Not an unreasonable assertion for him to make.

MA did this, EVH said that. From where I sit ALL members of Van Halen past and present are far from innocent or blameless. They've said and done stupid things through the years. That's life.
The upside is it looks like we will finally get a new album with Dave n Eddie. Bring it!

Mike already had a firm grip on Sammy's pocket like the bitch that he is when Sam and Dave toured...Chubby Cheddar hinted towards Mike joining him onstage during that time-if Mike wanted to be in THe Other Half of anything, he would have hooked up with Dave instead. There's a little more to this than Mike just wanting to gig.




You will never hear me say EVH is without blame in any of this, but neither is MA.
