Van halen ticket ruckas & the guys jam in the studio:

    MelodicRock.com - MRCD5 - OUT NOW!

From: Spinner.com: "Van Halen allegedly worked with scalpers during its fall 2007 tour in order to pull down an extra $1 million, according to a new report by the Wall Street Journal. The financial paper says the band was involved in farming out of up to 500 of the best seats from about 20 of its concerts with original frontman David Lee Roth to secondary ticket brokers.

In a move that was part of a Ticketmaster initiative named "Project Showtime," the desirable tickets were pulled from the company's system and passed directly to private sellers. These secondary ticketing firms reportedly kept 30 percent of the inflated sale price for themselves and pushed the remaining 70 percent back to Ticketmaster, the band and its handlers.

According to reporter Ethan Smith, the move by Ticketmaster was in effort designed to capture a piece of the sky-high prices charged by scalpers, which can exceed a ticket's face value by hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars.
Van Halen's manager Irving Azoff -- who was the CEO of Front Line Management, which Ticketmaster then co-owned, and who now serves as Ticketmaster's chief executive -- is said to have spearheaded the scheme. "Project Showtime" fell apart because of distrust between participants, but not before the secondary ticket brokers were given tickets to scalp for Van Halen with Azoff's blessing."

Meanwhile....guitarist Eddie Van Halen sent out the following message via Twitter this afternoon: "Wolfie, Alex and I rehearsed today and had a blast! We played a bunch of songs that we didn't play on the last tour like "Drop Dead Legs", "Girl Gone Bad" and "Outta Love Again"! And just jammed a bit. Haven't played these songs for a long time but they sound f'ing amazing!"

Uhm.....sounds like this news is at least deserving of a "Hell Yeah!"

As for the tickets, who knows how much the band was actually involved. A lot of sticky fingers in the pot when you have a tour that massive. And this shit has been happening for at least 20 years. Long gone are the days where you could wait overnight for tickets to go on sale and be assured a quality seat just by being first in line.

I'd second your "hell yeah" if Eddie's quote said "me, Wolfgang, Alex, and DAVE" were rehearsing.

I'll hold my elation for just a moment...

            Where's Dave?

            Ed, what the hell man?

Spend more time with the lead singer and drop the Gene Simmons "It's all about me, my control, attention and money" thing already. Loosen up and relax for a change.
Face it man, you really don't have that much time left to crush mountains down to fine sand with that guitar of yours AND YOUR BANDMATES. Where's the love of making everyone elses music mincemeat with a new album release?

You can't do that without getting tight like bros.
Pull it together for us, the fans. Please!!! You'll dig it, I swear it!
Only you can prevent Douchebaggery and being remembered as a giant bag of used douche sauce, Ed.
Speaking of sauce, if you don't pull Mike back into the fold thereby rescuing him from Clownboy you are a bag of funk the size of Texas.
            Nothing personal Wolf but,

            Van Halen is

            MIA
            AVH
            DLR
            EVH

Sheeeiiiittttt! You think you heard cheers during your last tour, don't you? Hell yes we are happy Diamond Dave is back where he belongs. You'll hear the mother of all cheers walking on stage with a full lineup of the real Van Halen, Jack!
Spend MORE TIME WITH DAVE and get Mike back.

Oh wait, this isn't Ed's page

Ticket prices are a ripoff regardless; if some jackass wants to pay $500 bucks to see a band up close...if a person actually thinks ANYONE is worth that price, well, a fool and their money are soon parted (probably were lucky to have gotten together in the first place).

Takes two to tango with most scams: the scammer and the scammee.

I mean, yes, a bit underhanded if the allegations prove to be true, but nobody was forcing anyone to buy those tickets at gunpoint.

It's just like that wonderful lesbian Eleanor Roosevelt once said - "people only take advantage of you if you let them."

Ed doesn't come across as someone with the capabilities to really understand the intricacies of scalping, although I doubt it would have bothered him much once it were explained that the net result would be putting more money into his pockets. Sitting around a home studio for years and drinking has to be financed by SOME means.

Let's not forget how VH also made their own bootleg t-shirts back in the day...
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

It takes two to make the sale, but it fucks over the third person me the fan who wants to have a decent seat at face value. I don't care about the person overpaying, I care about me and other fans who should be able to get a decent seat at face value.

Agree. With Van Halen we have always had to read between the lines. I'm excited just because of two facts:

                    1 - Eddie is rehearsing

2 - He stated CVH songs. He didn't say "Right Now, Amsterdam, Love Walks In...and they sound F'ing great".

Rehearsing is fine... but how about composing & recording instead.

                        "Ten albums, in the can."

What else could be in the can?

                        - ten tunas, in the can.
                        - ten Hefty Cinch-Sacks, in the can.
                        - ten bottles of Heineken, in the can.

Lets see: Ten empty medicinal marijuna vials, in that can; ten McDonalds Angus Beef burger shells, in that can.. ten Courvosier bottles, in the can, too.

Ten dead cable TV remote control batteries, in the can. Ten unreturned calls, in the can. Ten CVS prescription bags that didn't make it in the shredder but made it, in the can.

Ten cockroaches, in the can. Ten termites swarming from the hot August evening dying, in the can. Ten spiders feasting on all that shit, in the can.

I am willing to bet every little thing "in the can" is dead including every one of those "ten albums," in the can.

I think that overall we should be happy that EVH is practicing and letting us know about it. Remember that until a few weeks ago, we never heard a goddamn thing from the VH camp. How about we take 2 minutes and actually appreciate what's happening instead of finding an angle to bitch about?

So what Dave isn't thLet them get the music straight.. Be patient.. VH is actually doing something!
