They have to have someone cracking the whip or they'll go around in circles, re-recording and what not, and the dynamic of the old days is gone. (where Dave or Templeman, or Mo Ostin or whoever or whatever contractual obligations would be driving them to completed material) We know they have the material !

There's no sense of urgency here. We just get look we have to do this, then that and the other thing and THEN we'll start to work or whatever.

But there will be time for new guitars and equipment to be released, and EVH brand sneakers don't hit the market.

Thanks for the encouraging post and all, but it's a different ballgame here.
"These things take time." Ever notice in the old days it doesn't take as much time? Like 12 years.
To my knowledge they have no record label......not the end of the world in this day and age. Ed owns his own studio so there's no rush or anyone saying you're wasting money in the studio. They came off of their highest grossing tour and pulled it off, albeit in typical post 1985 fashion but they did pull it off.

They are staying relevant in the modern day and age.....Guitar Hero, FB, Twitter and the like. Ed has new gear to hawk and what better way to sell his products by recording and touring again.

There has to be a ton of pressure on these guys to produce the goods but......Ed's hand needs to heal/rehab and I can't imagine recording seriously until he's at 100%. Why would you? Again there's no record company demanding a product, that we know of. Back in the day they pumped out music because they had to. Remember they released Pretty Woman just to keep their name out there but it became a hit and the record company demanded a new album. At least that's what Ed said back in the day.

Purely IMO, they need a fucking superstar producer and a killer engineer to pull off a decent record. Ed has shown me that his production skills are lacking to say the least. Finding a producer, picking what riffs of Ed's they want to work on, rehabbing his hand, finding a record label or releasing it on their own, and all the other details that need to be straightened out....I can see it taking some time.

I am not saying it should take as long as it has but you can understand why, IMHO.

      Kwame,
reminded me of a site I stumbled across recently.

Welcome to the website of Wolfgang Music LLC. .Wolfgang is an independent record label with a primary focus in um, whatever we want, ...
      Wolfgang Music

It's all about the music, usually,
To put it simply, we need to worry a lot less about how to communicate our actions and much more about what our actions communicate.

Ed absolutely loves working with Wolfgang and one of Ed's most important goals in life is to make music with Wolfgang - including recording albums.

Ed is dying to record music with Wolfgang and we are all going to be the beneficiaries of that.

So stop worrying and start celebrating the fact that with Wolfgang on our side several new Van Halen albums are an absolute certainty!

A new VH-cd would have been cool, but they really should get a real singer, that Roth-guy is awful, singing out of tune and off key, and doing those weird, feminin ballet-like moves.
How about that Sammy Hagar-fella??? He's a great singer!

It does seem that Edwad is proving some of Hagar's points...

Totally agree with this. Eddie's an idiot savant and needs a strong guiding hand in every aspect of his life to keep him on track.

If you centre cancel to remove the vocals, Balance is the only listenable album from the Spudnuts era IMO. Having a name producer like Fairbairn and getting Eddie out of his 5150 hidey hole had a lot to do with that I think.

Either way, you guys, a new record is inevitable. Ed's going to do a record with Al, Dave, and Wolfie, regardless. Wolfie can go do whatever the fuck he wants, but he's doing a new album with Ed... I know this because on the Van Halen website you can hear re-recordings of classic songs... with the full band minus Dave. Also on Ed's Myspace blog, he stated he's in the recording studio working on new and old tracks with Dave, Al, and Wolfie. So ha. :tongue0011:

I don't like Hagar. Cherone sounds too much like Hagar, but he was an okay singer. However, I am ONLY a CVH fan!

I'm really indifferent about new music at this point.

I'm pretty confident that Ed won't let Wolf play on the album anyway. I'm also pretty confident that whatever they record won't be worth a piss in the public pool when stacked up in comparison to what they did on the first six albums.

The lack of a real reunion and the implementation of, well, yet another version of the band doesn't interest me any more now than what it did when it was first announced, and that is to say very little.

I've come to grips with the fact that the only decent Van Halen material that I'll ever enjoy comes on the first six albums and the last two tracks of Best of Vol. 1.

New music? I'll download it. Certainly won't buy it. If Michael Anthony is involved and it's the REAL band, I will ABSOLUTELY go see them live; if not, I can't be bothered.

Van Halen is too far along in the game for me to be forgiving at this point. I was forgiving up til 1988 and cautious about 1998, but at this stage in the game my leniency is all tapped out for Three Men and a Baby.
                              Twistin' by the pool.
