What is this Rev. Al crap

Well, maybe nobody cares about this, but ever since it was announced before EVH's wedding that 'Rev. Al' was officiating I have been curious as to why no one bothered to look closer into this. I mean - former rock and roll animal becomes a minister ...

So, does anybody know what kind of minister he is supposed to be? One of those mail order types, or some kind of Eastern religion? It'd be hard for it to be anything conventional - unless he has been in secret training for years.

I'm a licensed minister in the state of New York. I can legally perform marriages there. Just because you have a ministers license doesn't mean you are running a church or it's an occupation.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

So, is it just like more of a civic thing? But are you an 'ordained' minister - that's what they said about Al, and that 'ordained' makes it sound like a church is part of this. But I can see what you mean about it not necessarily being anything to do with an organised religion - just like the captain of a ship can perform marriages at sea, etc? You think that's what it is with Al - I was wondering if he got all religious or mystical when he gave up the booze.

I'm not up on this kind of stuff but i was thinking that the difference between justice of the peace and a minister is that a minister has to be ordained by a particular church. I think being ordained is usually associated with the Catholic church but i'm not positive.

Google is your friend. You can become an ordained minister online, in some cases for free.

I wonder if he'll refuse to play drums on certain songs because they are against his religion? "No, I'm sorry, but as a man of God I can't in good conscience play drums on "Runnin With The Devil"...that's promoting Satan." Or, "I can't play drums on Hot For Teacher because it promotes lusting after ones teacher which is a sin. Sorry Ed, no can do, I'm a man of the cloth now and I'll go to hell if I play drums on these songs."

Wait, isn't Ed's new wife a publicist for the porn industry? Doesn't Al have a prob with that?

                        True.

This one should probably merge with the other...

Its more than paying the state money for a license. I got mine by being sponsored by the head of the Syracuse University theology department but I never went to school to become a priest nor was I ordained. But you have to go through a state recognized religious organization. At least in New York you do.
