Which he can afford to, living off the coat-tails of his legacy... the thing that I can't understand is how such a creative human being can go so long without doing a damn thing..?

Well maybe I can see it... just don't want to acknowledge it... Ed's retired and moved on to building striped birdhouses in his garage like a lot of dudes do... When they hit a point where they don't want to or are unable to work their trade anymore.

I had planned and dreamed to retire in a couple of years about Ed's age... the economy took a huge bite out of that. Plus I realize I have 15-20 years of solid productivity left in me... Just can't see wasting those years fucking around in my garage on bullshit.

Yep, Dave has shut his yap the past few years and it is obviously the doing of the brothers and the VH organization.
The brothers also didn't give a fig about attending the Hall Of Fame because they wanted to be in the present tense of the "new" band and NOT be associated with that fat troll, Hagar.
Poor Mike was almost at a loss of words when he was on his own with Hagar there....but it was kinda funny.

Who really knows what's next?....VH would have to have killer new tunes
to get out there again-it's probably taking a long time to polish them up

Well, he's a working musician inasmuch as he periodically tours, but until I hear different he's no longer a creating musician. He's a clock-puncher (with a large hourly rate) who reproduces old memories and endorses merchandise. Today, Eddie Van Halen is a product and a brand name. In the old days, it felt like he was a musician first and foremost, with rock star perhaps running at times a close second.

I didn't want to really believe it, either. Lame and overused as it may be to say, it is what it is.

. . . didn't catch the reunion tour. i am hoping they release a dvd of the show. probably a ton of bootlegs out there . . .

. . . as far as the other thread i started that got closed down where i talked about van halen re-recording their classics for their next release, there was no link to a news story because there wasn't one. it was just something many other bands are doing that i wouldn't want vh to do. cheapens the whole deal somehow . . .
