. . . in addition to a new album and a concert dvd, kiss re-recorded a dozen or so of their classics for a greatest hits component on sonic boom. i guess they do this for copyright reasons so they get royalties on the old material with every sale of sonic boom. don't like the practice myself. there's a lot more to the classic hits than just the players playing them. there's the original production, engineering mastering and everything else. to me, the re-recordings aren't much more than live versions of the big songs from the past . . .

. . . but van halen re-recording hits like running with the devil and drop dead legs??? oh god no. van halen has way too much integrity to ever stoop to such a level . . .

. . . anyway, doesn't appear to matter. apparently eddie says no new material and that's it for recording. period. too bad . . . or is it? perhaps the time to record has past and that should simply be it for classic van halen . . .

Clearly ranting about it in a music mag is just advertising to his fans other than us on the boards that he's completely flipped.

Oh fuck no! Please tell me this is bullshit.
Have you ever bought a disc because it had a song on it from back in the day that you really dug, took it home, and played it before you turned the jewel-case around and read the small print on the back that reads "these songs are re-recorded by the original artists"?? I've made that mistake before, and that's exactly what this will be...a goddamn mistake. It will be a big final piss in the face of all the fans that have hung on and tolerated this band and their actions, and the ones that will get the gist of this urine are the ones who actually thought this band would crank out some new material.

Can Eddie play like he did in '78? That question answers itself. Can Roth still spit the same kind of venom he did with 'Runnin' With The Devil'? or even replicate his scream after Eddies solo in 'On Fire'.....ya' know why that scream happened? Because at the time he was broke, pissed off, and uncivilized and it just came out that way....and it was fucking beautiful.
I'm really hoping that this story is false, I really do. Because if it isn't I'm stuck in a dilemna.....do I throw this in or on top of the casket that is Van Halen?
