I saw them last Tuesday at the Continental Airlines Arena. Great seats, 12 th row.
I will begin with the prerequisite "I am a Dave fan but don't mind Sammy and love Eddie" qualifications.
Observations:
Setlist- this has been rehashed. Best song was ...Somebody get Me a Doctor and Runaround. The Dave songs were strictly by the numbers. One exception- ain't Talkin Bout Love was good.
The show started off really well IMO. Hagar is what he is- a COMPETENT front man. He isn't Dave and he isn't great, he is adequate. He is good enough for the band. Listen, I like Dave better too but those days are over.
The problem with him is that by the end of the show, he cant sing. He is exhausted (he is a 58 year old man). At the beginning, his voice, if like him, is fine. When he is trying to sing Dreams an hour and half in, forget it.
Alex Van Halen sucks. I know the guy has a bad neck and whatever, but his solo is really lame. He looks like a combination between Grandpa Al Lewis and a chimp with his "arm drumming". Really lame and a waste of time. Would have rather heard a couple more songs.
EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE!!! I don't care what any of you fuckers say- Eddie is God. And he was great on this night. He looked like the Eddie of old (until he pulled his hair up) , played great and was having a blast out there. Good for him. If you don't like Eddie, you aren't a Van Halen fan. Simple as that.
Michael Anthony- the glue that keeps it all together. With his singing and enthusiasm, its no doubt that this reunion happened because of Mike. I like him and I hope he gets more another song to sing. He was GREAT.
I got what I expected and had a good time.

On edit- one other point 17 K people there. 11k expected on the second night.
Here's a completely ridiculous question: Why is a Hagarita posting a Van Hagar review on a Roth fansite?Comment
