"FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKIN' BITCH! WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ANYWAYS? TALK TO ME LIKE THAT? FUCK YOU. DRAG QUEEN LOOKIN' WHORE- YOU AINT SHIT. YOUR THE FRECKLE TO THE LEFT OF MY BROWN EYE. NOW GO MAKE YOURSELF USEFUL...OH, PUT DAD ON THE PHONE"
Sammy headlined his VOA tour and there were a lot of decent crowds for the "Can't Drive 55" 15 minutes of fame.
In fact, one of my college buddies raved about Sammy's show that summer. "He was climbing all over the rigging with his headset. Where is he now?!"
I was thinking the other day that Sammy Hagar's real peer is Billy Squier: decent to above average rocker who was a lot less cool than his contemporaries. Homoerotic tendancies included free of charge.

So around 1984. Thanks for the info. I don't remember that tour, but I don't remember a lot from 20 years ago. Billy Squier is a great analogy; wimpy music with distortion guitars.
Sammy Hagar did have his one moment of true unholiness....
This Planet's On Fire (Burn In Hell)
Cancelled flights, limousines,
Hustle bustles, crazy scenes.
First, you're here, then, you're there
Pretty soon, man, you've been everywhere.
Ooh, this planet's on fire
Oh, Satan's desire
We've seen the rise, we'll see the fall
He's here to see us all,
Burn in Hell.
Time ticks away, faster, faster.
You run so fast you forget what you're after.
You make a deal to sell your soul
Just to find out, baby, it's been sold.
Ooh, this planet's on fire
Oh, Satan's desire
We've seen the rise, we'll see the fall
He's here to see us all,
Burn in Hell.
Burn in Hell.
Not me, baby!
-solo-
Ooh, this planet's on fire
Oh, Satan's desire
We've seen the rise, we'll see the fall
He's here to see us all,
Burn in Hell.
Fine, white lines of crystal light
Keep us up all day and all night.
Oh, we just forgot girls and boys
Who thrive on cosmic toys.
Ooh, this planet's on fire
Oh, Satan's desire
We've seen the rise, we'll see the fall
He's here to see us all,
Burn in Hell.
Burn in Hell, Owwww!!
(This planet's on fire)
(This planet's on fire)
Ooh, this planet's on fire
Oh, Satan's desire
Ooh, this planet's on fire
Oh, Satan's desire, yeah!
Yes!

You know, somewhere I have an old Circus magazine from around 1984, and they have an interview with Sammy. What is funny is how much resentment he held for Van Halen in the interview. He says, and I quote, "Same format, same producer, band is named after the guitarist, and boom they make it." This was in reference to his stint in Montrose. I remember reading that and thinking...this guy is fucking delusional if he thinks Montrose was anywhere near the same calibur as Van Halen. Anyway, a year later the fucker was sucking Ed and Al's dick.

Nah, they only did a couple of tunes, 3 I think. Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Melloncamp were the headliners. I think Spammy and Ed just sort of showed up.
