I've said it over and over, Spam fans are devoid of any humor. If they had any they'd understand classic Van Halen. It's not worth debating any more, you get Dave or you don't. It's fair enough to say that you're not interested in him now, but if you don't like him in his prime then you have an insipid (not to mention nasty) personality.Comment

Look I'm not out to slam Hagar, but Van Halen with Dave had magic. It had an edge. After Dave quit (or was kicked out?), Van Halen just sounded like a somewhat harder version of Genesis. That's OK if you like that kind of thing (and I don't mean to berate Genesis) but I find it uninspiring. I hear enough of that. It just seems tired to me. You either can see the magic of the Dave era, or you can't. I don't minimize the importance of Eddie. He had a true gift. But I think whatever this volatile relationship between Dave and Eddie was, it resulted in some powerful music. Dave era VH was a juggernaut that crushed everything in its path. Once Dave left, VH was eclipsed by bands that still had the edge VH lost. VH lost its relevance. In the late 80s and early 90s VH was second rate compared to bands like G N' R and Metallica. At least that's my opinion.Comment
