Is this gag order a first in rock music

Is this gag order a first in rock music?

Has anyone else been gagged like DLR in the music industry?

Sure. Anyone that ever worked at or visited the Neverland Ranch springs to mind.

Sorry Chefcraig I meant old band members beng re-hired etc.

I mean Bruce Dickenson was re-hired but is allowed to talk to press.

The same goes for Rob Halford.

I wonder if they were offered the same sort of restrictions that Dave has to endure would they have signed on for the gig.

Just wondering if Dave may have lost a bit of credability by doing this sort of deal.

      Hope not

I don't think being "gagged" by Michael Jackson's dick was what he was referring to.

Far as losing credibility goes, well, hate to say it but by the time 2006 rolled around I doubt outside of his hardcore fanbase that Roth had much credibility left to lose.

While many of us on this site can rationalize or appreciate what Dave was doing the last ten years prior to hooking up with Van Halen and touring, to the rock community at large Roth accepting a hypothetical gag order would be a small price to pay after a decade of 1) being an opening act, 2) co-headlining a tour with Sammy Hagar, 3) releasing 2 albums that commercially bombed and 4) undertaking a radio dj gig that was yanked off the air in fairly short order.

I mean, whatever pride Roth had left career-wise at that point and whatever amount of that he would have preserved by not signing a hypothetical gag order has to, in reality, be offset by the payday a reunion with Eddie and Alex was going to bring...a payday significantly higher than sporatically headlining 2,000 venues with tickets at $40 a pop as a solo act.

this might be a little different type of gagging but

freddie mercury, elton john, liberache, and sammy hagar regularly gagged on the snotty end of a love stick.
those boys couldnt get enough man gravy.

Assuming there IS an actual gag order in place...

Let's face it. There is NOBODY in rock with a motormouth like Dave has.

I'm sure Eddie doesn't want Dave sending out any more press releases that calls Eddie out for his own douche baggery again like in 1996.

I am sure Dave knows where supper hangs at the momment...and he is smart enough to know not to fuck it up.

If it was over with him and VH...I think we would know...because Dave would be doing a few shows and talking.

Yeah, well, look at what ten years of running his yapper from 1996 to 2006 got him, career-wise.

I suppose he could have kept his integrity / freedom / ability to say whatever he wanted, and continued to play 1 to 2,000 seat venues. Considering he wanted to reunite with Van Halen for the past decade, keeping his lip zipped offstage in exchange for headlining 15 to 20,000 seat arenas seems a small price to pay.

Van Halen, for whatever that name is worth these days, is Eddie's band. Dave is more or less welcome as long as he does what Ed wants to. It's no different than being a fan of the band these days, in that you accept whatever Ed decides to give you. Take it or leave it. Roth took it, for a hefty compensation.

there are few rock bands whos name means anything these days, the stones,metalica,AC/DC are a few that i can name that really have a big following, can sell out everywhere they go. rock and roll is nothing like it used to be as far as selling tickets and albums, its pretty much dead. its true that vanhalens name doesnt mean much to todays youth, they have no sense of awe like we got when VH hit the rock scene.

when im 80 god willing, ill be slapping 60 year olds and laughing at their storys of when p diddy or lady gaga hit the scene, i will be able to tell the story of vanhalen.

its kinds like cocaine we all got that big blast and have been chasing it for 30 years, its not gonna happen folks, just take what ya get and try to relax.

                        we were lucky

Your post prompted an odd thought... maybe it ain't Ed's gag order at all. Possible Roth decided to settle down, get married and try a whole new mountain he'd never climbed before. Given this path ain't his normal schtick... he'd do so privately/quietly. Protect his future prospects for earning via VH and just lay low...

Clearly he's a man who'd have no challenges similar to most for a mid-life crisis, given the life he's lived. Actually heading in the opposite direction seems almost logical... that one safari trip he's never booked...

that's my guess as well. I don't think there is a "gag order" but even IF there were one, the Rothman is filling his own prophecies. The dude just made millions of dollars. Millions and millions. He has prob spent some time rehearsing with Ed by now. I have NO doubts that some shit is written and possibly already cleaned up and ready to go. But between investing some cash, paying some bills, having a social life and do some traveling. I doubt he got married as Im sure that would make some headlines.
