Your post prompted an odd thought... maybe it ain't Ed's gag order at all. Possible Roth decided to settle down, get married and try a whole new mountain he'd never climbed before. Given this path ain't his normal schtick... he'd do so privately/quietly. Protect his future prospects for earning via VH and just lay low...
Clearly he's a man who'd have no challenges similar to most for a mid-life crisis, given the life he's lived. Actually heading in the opposite direction seems almost logical... that one safari trip he's never booked...
I have been thinking something similar myself - not that he got married, but that maybe Dave just went and turned it all around; decided to do something totally different, like writing a novel or something.
Incidentally, although it may piss us all off that we hear nothing from the VH camp, I think this is good. I'm not entirely sure I ever want to hear another lick of music from them - too scared it will suck. But, if they do make more music, there is a way of going about it that is befitting their legend. There's too much tittle-tattle, celebrity crap surrounding rock music today - so much that it's all but ruined it. Can you image if VH were trying to play along with that - they'd be reduced to item Z on news items that feature passing fads and talentless twats at the top.
A bit of Zep-like silence - if that's what they are doing - seems to me a better way of conducting themselves than trying to play aong with the world of 'infotainment'. Keep it up guys, and don't release anything unless it is really good. You ask some talented bastard - me - to make a movie, just like The Kids Are Alright, y'know - the best rock'n'roll film there is.
Wikipedia entry for Dave...newish quote I've never seen
When asked about the recent Rolling Stone blurb concerning Eddie Van Halen jamming again with Wolfgang and Alex Van Halen, David Lee Roth mentioned "Oh, I'm just waiting for a call you know. We've got no new songs yet, no new lyrics but we've got forward momentum and that's the key. (Alex Van Halen)'s got this idea to use the kid from the '84 album grown up for the cover art though. Who knows? I'm gonna have to start hittin' the snooze button and not set an alarm, 'cause I'm expecting that call at any minute."
This is flagged for "citation needed".....is this the work of the Roth Army??
