It was my recollection that Gary first met Eddie in July of 1996. Around this time there was also Mitch Malloy -- all the while VH were working on the two songs with Dave. It was a bizzare scenario to say the least.

Indeed it was. As I recall, Ed had a serious falling out with Malloy after he (Malloy) had misgivings about being in the band, and suggested they get Dave back. This was met with the by then predictable childish rage of Mr. Van Halen, who pretty much dismissed Malloy on the spot as a result.

Great to hear from you, Vinnie! Hope all is good on your end.

Mitch lives here in Gnashville. Saw him a couple of weeks after Mitch Mitchell died.....at a sort of tribute to Jimi Hendrix where Gnashville studio cats (and others like Reeves Gabrels) performed Are You Experienced in it's entirety. Mitch sang on one song. Can't recall which one. Sounded pretty good, considering Hendrix was not a great vocalist, lol.

For the first time I spent a few moments studying some of the youtube clips of the '07 tour last nite, and I was wondering:

Since it appears that the tour was shot seven ways to Sunday in full HD, shouldn't it be fairly easy to edit all these down to the best-of cuts for DVD release?

Maybe MTV is pressuring to have a piece of that as if they really, really care to pre-empt their shitty scripted-reality reruns..

            1. MTV does not do music anymore and should be forced to give up the M because of Public Domain and fair usage.
            2. This numbnuts is no fan of VH as I don't care what "Visceral" (is this a chick?) moments he has. MWM and CGTSNM were worthy of release on Fair Warning....this guy is a tool.
            3. Soundgarden has re-united....I hope a counter-piece is written saying they should not record a new album and when he gets his copy my dog has pee'ed all over it. I love Soundgarden but would be willing to give them up so this guy commits suicide. Then he can get his "visceral" moments jacking off to Thayall in hell.

              All is good, my friend.

Figured new Dave/VH news means reason for VV to get back in here!

This makes your theory "that the band was still in the mindset of writing for Cherone" hold water as well as a cheese grater. Here's an idea: Stick to subjects that you might actually have a clue about as to what you are writing. For instance, don't you have a piece on Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber that you need to pump out?

Well if you put your ear up to their ear (not that you'd want to )you would be able to hear the ocean much better than if you used a sea shell.

Open letters are begging others to waste their time on an opinion that is ill-conceived, poorly thought out, and presumptuous to expect that the targeted party wants to be privy to the ramblings of a befuddled buffoon who more than likely really only understood roughly 5% of the subject at hand in the first place. The heading should always be "Dear Entity who's never going to read this anyway, since I can't fix my own station in life let me expound on how you should run yours"

Pick a producer, go into a studio for 3-4 weeks tops, and shit out an album.
That's pretty much what KISS did with Sonic Boom... did it stand up to their classic six-pack of albums (KISS, HTH, DTK, Destroyer, RARO & Love Gun)? No... but it's sold almost 500,000 copies in the US alone, which is pretty much considered a success by today's standards and there's already talk of them going into the studio in February to shit out another one.
                        Just fucking do it.
And as far as Dave's voice goes... the right producer could get Dave's upper register sounding good and strong. 'Black Ice' is no 'For Those About To Rock'... but Brendan O'Brien got Brian Johnson sounding pretty damn good again.
It probably would be best if they just let it rip and knocked out an album as quickly as possible, rather than hyperstrategize.

They really would benefit from an outside producer, though. If Eddie is twiddling the mixing console knobs, it ain't gonna sound good.

                          Dear Mtv:

Any credibility you had regarding having any expertise on music went out the window decades ago. Your comments regarding any record by the current =VH= lineup is just drivel. Now, back to your quality programming..."Jersey Shore" is it? Douches.

edit: sorry to repeat the prior posts, guys...great minds think alike...

"Honey, my shirt got itself torn up. My shirt tore itself on that stripper's hand, and I need it to be sewed up for the show."
"No problem, Dave, no problem. Say hello to Fluffy."
                          "Fuck you, Fluffy."
"No, no, you're going to upset Fluffy."
"I ain't saying hello to no stuffed bear."
"You know, now that I think about it, it's going to take a little longer to sew up that shirt than I was thinking."
                          "Hi Fluffy, how you been?"
"Now that I'm thinking of it even more, it's going to take half the time, Double D, Diamond Dave! Would you hold Fluffy?"
                          "N--- yeah."
