Fantastic album. It's too bad that grunge was moving in and messing with rock's ability to keep selling big. I remember having a BBQ at the time with a buddy of mine and commenting, "Dave's music is the f**king sunshine. How can people not be diggin' it!?" And his response was, "They don't listen to this kind of music anymore..." What a shit decade.

This album rocked from front to back. 'Eat 'em And Smile' kicked my ass, but ALAE is my favourite of his bunch.

I agree with you to a certain extent about grunge taking over for mainstreem rock and killing all the hair bands. However, this album dropped in January 1991 I believe, and groups like Nirvana/Alice In Chains/ Pearl Jam didn't make their impact until the fall of 1991, and this style of music was still popular during it's time of release. This album should have a much greater commercial success. I know it went gold, but I'm not sure if it went platinum... maybe it's platinum noe after 20 years.... but I am not exactly sure if ALAE is even in print nowadays.

I don't know if it's just me but the older I get, the more appreciating I have become towards Jason Becker over Steve Vai. Not sure if it's because I played the shit outta EEAS for 25 years or what... but this album may be better than ALAE... it is more bluesy and has diversity over the pervious two albums.

Just imagine if Dave had come out with ALAE in 1988 instead of Skyscraper. People would have eatin it up like candy.

Yeah I think Becker could have been the greatest of his generation. He had everything, I would have loved to have seen him do the tour but instead we got 2 journeymen.

Who the hell did tour with them I forget.

Just looked at wikipedia.... didn't have a clear answer.

However, I just learned that the video for A LITTLE AIN'T ENOUGH was banned from MTV shortly after it's release.

                          I think so.

I was at the first show of the World tour so maybe they improved but they were disappointing that night. As a guitarist I know enough to be able to spot when someone has to duck the tougher stuff. One I remember is for example using two handed tapping for the start of the solo to Ice Cream Man. With Becker you would have had the opposite where he would be playing Hot For Teacher without the Eddie 'cheats'.

Plus it's just kind of wrong to play CVH/Roth stuff with two guitarists.

Wasn't the ALAE tour cancelled at some point because of poor ticket sales?

No way. I must have seen it a hundred times on MTV. It was always in their countdowns for Video of the day/week as well.
