I personally blame Ed. Even though Alex has Ed on a String, Ed is the final say. Dave makes Ed WORK hard, and we ALL know that WORK gets in the way of DRINKING!! Ed's tired and lazy, so why not have Sam in the band? A gay, I mean GUY that doesn't care if Ed rips a destructive lead or not? Seems like the easy way out to me, but it reflects in the QUALITY of material they put out... "It's About Time"?!?? I COULD WRITE A BETTER VANHALEN TUNE THAN THAT FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!!! Seriously, IMO. It is Dave's fault he is not in Van Halen. He quit in 1984 and that was the end of Van Halen. Since that time there has been enough "water under the bridge" that everyone can have a drink of blame for why Van Halen has not, and most likely will never, reunite. The sad bad fact of the matter is that Van Halen exists only in the portals of rock and roll history and the hearts of VH fans everywhere. Even if a "real" reunion were to occur, it would pale in comparison to what Classic Van Halen was.

Please, I have no idea what youre talking about. But its pretty funny bringing peoples moms into the thread. How can anyone blame Ed for Dave quitting?

Dave left in 1985. No question about it.

As to why Dave hasn't rejoined the band fulltime since 1996, has more to do with Ed and Alex than anything else.

Think the bottom line is Dave isn't going to approach the sisters with a defeated attitude and act like they're doing him a favor by letting him back in the band. Basically, he's not gonna kiss their asses. No reason for him to. He was there at the beginning.

Ed's just gotten used to Van Halen being his band, and being the focal point of it.

Doesn't really matter whose fault it is that Dave isn't in the band. Looking at the state Ed and Al are in, I'd just as soon classic Van Halen not reunite. Until Ed can write and play something worth hearing, it would just be a waste of time.
