Because Van Halen is built on a very shaky foundation and could implode at any moment. The organizers know this and would not roll the dice on having to find a replacement act at the last second because Eddie had another tampon moment and broke up the band.

Only a blistering new disc and wildly sucessful follow-up tour would give VH any credibility as a possible Super Bowl act.

Ice falling on people, People finding out there were no seats for them after paying for tickets and traveling there, Christina Agulera fucks up the national anthem, the half time show sucked. Last nights game really was all about the game. It was a great match from start to finish. First time in a while it was better than all the commercials & talent fillers. The National Anthem was fucked up, the commercials were weak & tame, the half-time show was God awful. Game was great.

They hit the stage singing "tonights gonna be a good good night...."

20 minutes later I notice it looks like they are finishing up. I undo mute and hear...

WTF?! They played their 1 hit for 20+ minutes? LOL I suppose Tommy Tutone would play a 20 minute version of Jenny if he ever played half time.

If the NFL was trying to really draw extra fans & stay cutting edge, they would have gotten Justin Beiber or Lady Gaga. Easily the 2 hottest acts out right now. I still woulda hit mute. But they are what's hot right now.
