I'm watching The Hagaritas right now on DirecTV's 101 Network....

It's comical just how bad that band is....

It will be done much the same way the video introducing the band at the Hall Of Fame was done. Random clips from the past 25 years of each guy discussing the album with most likely Sammy & Mike offering live & current thoughts on it.

And why was 1984 only at #2? Was it up against Thriller at that time? Anyone who reached number 2 while Thriller was holding the #1 spot basically had a #1 album. Thriller doesn't count. There was no one that was gonna knock that juggernaut off it's spot. (rightfully so)

              Very true.

Considering the profile and money Hagar has managed to build up on the coat tails of Van Halen, he hired surprisingly mediocre musicians.

Correction: I may be out of date with this, if I'm honest I've only ever seen or heard them play for about 25 minutes before walking out on the Roth/Hagar tour back in 2002.

Vic was okay. Not a horrible guitarist and not a dead fish on stage. But he is missing that flair, that energy, vibe. He plays the notes well enough, but they just seem to lack that extra feeling invlolved to make them sound right.

Mona - well, I've never heard a bass solo from her. I won't call her a bad player if she is just playing the background tracks she is supposed to. She seems cool enough as a person. Has the rock star attitude & look and I like a woman who isn't afraid to drink along side of me. I just don't think she is any virtuoso on bass or great at writing bass lines. Fine enough playing ones already written for her live though.

David Lauser is a good drummer. Lots of good rock drummers. He's no AVH, Stewart Copeland or Dave Lombardo in that he doesn't have a style that really stands out & above the rest.

So this is Sammys band. All quality musicians, but no stand outs. Which is exactly what he intended. Even though he calls it a band, it's really all about him and a stand out musician would draw some of that spotlight away. He wanted people that would play well enough to not get noticed for sucking, but also not play too well that they got noticed for that to. Mission accomplished.

As far as Vic goes, I'm not a great guitarist but if I was going on stage every night in front of 5 or 10 thousand people I'd make damn sure I could play the Van Hagar solo's and not appear as though I was just trying to wing it.

I wonder sometimes if there isn't an inverse racism thing with black guitarists whereby if you are black people assume you have some natural blues ability or are the reincarnation of Hendrix.

Vic has the worst, most generic tone.

Yeah, it's strange. It's like very by-the-book note for note doing the Van Hagar songs, but just dry. Falls flat. Maybe he just learned the songs by reading the music sheets & never listened to the originals. So he has no clue to the feeling involved.

Hard to rip the guy too much when I can't play for shit. But that's half the fun of the Internets.

Dave solo sounded a lot closer to Van Halen than Hagar solo did to Van Hagar.

I haven't paid attention to those guys in forever. I'm guessing they are a scab tribute band now pretty much? Fuck that. And I did like them in the early 80's. Couples Skate time at the local roller rink just wouldn't have been the same without them. Nor those first junior high dances.

To me the Flatulitas are lame.

Sure they are ok musicians individually, but not 'unique' or 'stellar' by any sense of the word.

Ugh....just thinking about Spambot makes me wanna hurl. Fucking fat cheeseburger-inhaling tequila-swilling idiot.

Let's see...Ed and Al are supposedly recording the first new record with Dave since 1984 and the only press they're doing is an interview to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first record without Dave. Sounds about right to me.
