Staying in cheap motels and going to concerts. We used to stay at some rat hole called the Se Rancho and raise hell. They demolished it to expand the freeway but that's ok, because no way in hell would you stay in the gang riddled neighborhood now.

Just remember it will be winter down there then. Be prepared for the shock when you get off that plane in Sydney (the exact opposite of what others would feel the minute they step out of Sky Harbor in August.

Those are always the best vacations. Where you need 2 days at home as a mini vacation to decompress. When we used to do spring breaks at the river, we always made sure we came home Saturday morning of the last weekend. That gave us Sat afternoon through Monday morning to recuperate.
