I loved the 2007 reunion tour. I loved seeing Dave & Eddie on stage together. And I love that we are most likely about to get a new album & tour.

I fucking hate and am saddened that they probably haven't even seen each other in person since the tour ended. Recording in different locations. Eddie send music to Dave, Dave records lyrics to it, sends it back to Eddie. Not personal contact. No working on songs together. Not really a band at all. Just bums me out how they have to go about this to keep it together.

Let's be realistic. Bands sometimes go on tour because a band member needs the money. The Who went on tour because John Entwistle was in financial trouble and needed money. Why would Van Halen suddenly go on tour with Roth when they avoided that for years and were in no hurry to do it later? Alex probably needed the money and the relationship with Sam was done. So they got Dave in. It might also be the influence of Ed's new wife who would benefit from the cash flow as well.

It's no longer the dynamic Van Halen of old. It's more of a posed situation. At least the fans got their closure and they finished the tour.

Yeah, pretty much. I'll be happy to see Dave & Ed on stage together again for what I assume will be the last tour. These guys aren't 20/30/40/50 anymore....

Actually he just posted this pic and 'WTF'?

My new theory is that it was the new patented Eddie Van Halen Scolds Bridle©®™.

A scold's bridle was originally a British invention, possibly originating in Scotland, used between the 16th and 19th Century. It was a device used to control, humiliate and punish gossiping, troublesome women or sometimes men by effectively gagging them.

They sent John Shanks a special key to allow him to unlock it during the studio sessions hence the 'WTF' line.

So it was really a picture of Dave then, wearing said scolds bridle, now it's all making sense, THIS is why he's been so quiet, must be part of his contract lol

Even a cursory listen to VHIII proves this.

I envision Ed at the console the way Dave describes him reading lyrics...

He just stares at the middle of the page. "I dunno man."

I recall reading Johns saying that Ed was in tears because he couldn't get the tapes for that fake live album to track properly. And considering I have home demos done on a four track cassette that sound superior to VH III, I don't exactly have my hopes up. Then again, most people will be listening to this release either with crummy computer speakers or earbuds, so fidelity might not be that great of an issue.

I wouldn't take this as gospel.

Would Roth really put his name to a VH record if it was done in this way?

Of course he would. Realistically, does he have another option that stands a good chance of being commercially successful?

I know what you mean, and I can see the logic. But when you're in your mid-50s and you've held out a grudge for a quarter of a century, why compromise to that extent.

Plus, at this stage in the game a new Van Halen album isn't going to be that commerically succesful. It wouldn't sell millions.
