Let's be realistic. Bands sometimes go on tour because a band member needs the money. The Who went on tour because John Entwistle was in financial trouble and needed money. Why would Van Halen suddenly go on tour with Roth when they avoided that for years and were in no hurry to do it later? Alex probably needed the money and the relationship with Sam was done. So they got Dave in. It might also be the influence of Ed's new wife who would benefit from the cash flow as well.

It's no longer the dynamic Van Halen of old. It's more of a posed situation. At least the fans got their closure and they finished the tour.

Who knows how much money Edweird flushed down the toilet in the last ten years with the porn crowd, coke, meth, etc. Those porn parties at his house, how much shit got stolen and what did he give away because he was so fucked up?? Rick James said it best.....

So as my world is apparantly very small, I actualy got an update on the new record. Apparantly Ed is "producing" it. Shanks is only "producing" Roth's vocal tracks at an outside studio. The music was done by Eddie at 5150 with Ross Hogarth engineering. No gonna get anybody in trouble by naming names, as someone might get fired, but that's the way it's been done.The record is done ( recorded) , but is being "tweaked" at 5150. I 'have not heard it, and I have no idea about the actual record. Just an update on the process from someone actually working on it. Thought I'd share.

Melodicrock started the Ross Hogarth rumours in 2010. However, the VHND, which seems to be a much more reliable source these days said the following about those rumours last December:

VHND:
Rumor: Van Halen has chosen Ross Hogarth to produce new music.
FALSE: The producer they chose is John Shanks. Hogarth is an engineer rather than a producer, and is not involved with Van Halen whatsoever.

I don't doubt that Eddie had some input into the producing, but if it was only Shanks and Roth working on vocals at an outside studio with Eddie doing the music at 5150, why was Eddie recently photographed at that outside studio?

Rumor: DLR’s vocals are being recorded away from the 5150 studio.
Partially True: This is true, but only in regards to the early demos, not the final recording. This is what many bands do before entering the studio. The entire band will reconvene in the studio in January.

Watched The Police Certifiable DVDs the other night and it kept making me think how much I cant stand that Van Halen cant or wont seem to get shit done that even if so-so, I'm going to run out blindly and purchase. They couldn't get one good show off that tour to put out on DVD? They cant work together and knock out a CD in these three years. I hate them worse than I hate the Mets medical staff.

I can clearly remember walking into a record store during my lunchbreak and buying 1984, within a few days of its release. I remember how cool the cover was. Now all these years later, I'm going to be doing the same thing - buying a VH album with Dave as frontman - it sure will feel a little odd.....
