I don't know if anyone's interested in this kind of thing or not, but there were things here that I never read from magazine interviews at the time.

Thanks for posting, Ed certainly has never been one to gravitate to the press....

I tell ya, that was one fascinating interview....

Nothing earth-shattering, we've all known Ed hates the spotlight, but to hear him expound on that was very interesting....

Fucking awesome, dude. I've seen bits of this in print before, but I've never heard the actual interview tape it was transcribed from. Very cool.

Ed and I write from entirely different perspectives. I can't write when I am sad. Ed writes best when tortured and kicking his way out of the pain (Fair Warning). And of course my writing is private [insert insults here], but I always admired that John Lennon moment when Ed comes out with kicking through that door that the dark times allows him to do.

I thought that Dave added fire to Ed's playing because he pissed him off...while Alex just tried to fit the groove. But Dave also was the biggest fan of Ed.

Let us hope that the fire is combined with the Whine that made for the best writing ever is still something Dave and Ed can give to Van Halen. Paul Lennon and John McCartney to me.

'I'd love to be the invisible man' ...! That's the Ed I love - his insecurity was what made him work so hard at being unique. As the years went on - we all know - the guy just became more burdened by all the attention and people saying he was the shit. It happens to a lot of artists who are kinda baffled by their 'greatness'.

This is part of a longer interview where Eddie has his guitar and Lisa Robinson asks him about the way he plays and how it's different from what he listened to growing up, and he lays into a great version of 'Crossroads'. It's on the 'Demography' boot - you can hear her at the beginning of that saying 'play Crossroads', or something.

There's a couple of good audios of interviews Lisa Robinson did with DLR that are well worth a listen too. She was good at getting them to drop their guard. That's her on the left in the pic there.

Here's a good one with DLR and Lisa Robinson from January 84 (that's her pecking Sting on the cheek, with DLR in the back there):
