He probably had the player set to "shuffle" play. Since there are more Roth tracks on the album, the chances of dodging a vomit-inducing bullet are somewhat better that way.

As stated by others, nice to hear from ya again, Rikk. Hope all is well with you and yours.

As an aside here, it should be noted that "Summer Nights" supposedly was essentially a minimally rewritten Dave track called "Eat Thy Neighbor" that the sisters had destroyed when they brought on Sam....

Well for all that has been said about Spamula and David Lee Roth....there is just one thing that Roth can do that Sammy can't, and that is to make a Van Halen record.

                  That's a good point I honestly misremembered.

Like most people I bought the album for the 2 new tracks and those are the only ones I ever listened to on it.

The problem came when I clicked forward 1 track too early, I heard the start of HB many times because of that.

That would have been like playing Russian Roulette with 3 bullets in the gun.

Actually I don't think I had the ability to 'shuffle' back then.

I went to see them twice during the 2004 cash-grab tour because I honestly thought it would be the last chance to see Eddie before he died.
Funny, I realized just before I read your post that I only went to Spamulus intentionally one time....even then it was not specifically to see IT, but really just to be able to go to see an arena rock concert.

See, in Wichita, Kansas, most of the time the great bands just bypassed the town. They played Kansas City all the time. Or Dallas. Or even OKC or Tulsa. Did not give fuck all about Wichita.

As a result, I sometimes went to see shows at the Kansas Coliseum simply to see a fucking rock show, even if it was a band I did not care for. When I saw the lame Bette Midler spectacle in Dallas, it was for some entertainment. ANY fucking rock-related entertainment. And afterwards I felt I wasted my time, but I wanted some kind of arena action.

Anyway, every time I saw Spambot aside from that Dallas show, it was for reasons unrelated to that fat cock-gobbler. Wanted to give my roomie a good birthday present. I wanted to see Ed, Al and Mikey. I wanted to see Boston. I wanted to see Metallica, Kingdom Clone and The Scorpions.

Interesting side effect is that because I have seen him in his original solo career, with van hagar, and 2wice after van hagar, I CAN speak from authority that he is a lame hack bloated sack of shit cocksucker who only got big because he was lucky.......and had record labels who threw money into marketing his stupid ass. In short, he was the perfect HO for the labels to pimp out to the masses.

And TO THIS FUCKING DAY the goddamn cheeseburger swiller cannot shut up. Fucking idiot.

I put second-era AC/DC ten ladder rungs down from the classic era. BACK IN BLACK is a way more basic and bland album to me than HIGHWAY or especially DIRTY DEEDS. I actually like FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK more. I actually like BALLBREAKER because it goes a bit back to that classic sound. But for the most part, the Johnson material pales and sounds like by-the-numbers hard rock (as good as it can be). But at least it's not embarrassing the way the majority of the Van Hagar catalog can be.

But even with that, I fucking love Brian Johnson. Listened to one of his Eddie Trunk interviews last week, and the dude is such a nice guy. He talked about his favorite Bon-era album (DIRTY DEEDS) and you could tell he's such a fan. He has continued to sing anything from the old catalog during the band's whole career. Christ, any one of their shows since Bon's death has still been pretty much 50% Bon material, and Johnson's stuff sounds really good live next to chestnuts like SIN CITY or JAILBREAK. The band has gone downhill in terms of consistency and quality, but at least they're respectful and constantly pay tribute to those days.

Hagar continues to fucking lie. He said repeatedly on Howard Stern this year that Van Hagar sold more records than Van Halen. And that two-face pussy Stern backed him up repeatedly, talking about the better-selling era of the band. Yes, all four Sam albums went to No. 1. None of Dave's did. But charts are a relative statistic, not an absolute one. Would 5150 have beaten THRILLER? Not in this universe.

Here's an interesting statistic for Shambo: If you add up the sales to all four Van Hagar albums, they would not even be as much as the combined sales of just two Dave-era albums (VAN HALEN and 1984). Then add on the sales of DIVER DOWN, VAN HALEN II, etc... Sam is such a fucking liar.

I did forget to add one thing, though. I do like his tequila. And I have no shame at all in admitting that.

But even then, it's not as good as Patron.

With AC/DC, the Brian Johnson band was missing what had been the vibe they had with Bon.

                          With Bon they were MENACING.

They were like a gang of street thugs who barely learned how to play, but the vibe was DANGEROUS.

With Brian they became the Pop version of AC/DC. Some nudge-nudge lyrics here and there. Some "hey let's have a great time rocking out" lyrics occasionally.

But Bon-era stuff like Sin City, or Night Crawler were menacing, with a scary vibe to it. Something I feel they were unable to do with Brian in front, and writing the lyrics.

Same with VH to some degree, though VH was a party band from the start. It was just that they were the REAL DEAL. Uncle Dave has always been the single greatest rock frontman alive. Vocals be damned. I am talking about VIBES baby!

Spambot was a sugar-coated lollipop singer.

Uncle Dave was a lollipop filled with vodkad! :D

My brother in law is a sales rep and drives a ton. He has satellite radio in his car and listens to Howard Stern. He is also a huge classic VH fan, and is a real good singer frontman type who works the audience when his band plays gigs.

Anyways, his take on Howard is Howard does not like David Lee Roth. His theory is when Dave took over Howard's old spot over at CBS radio Howard offered Dave help and advice and Dave blew Howard off. Since then Howard seems to make subtle jabs and make fun of Dave. Notice Dave no longer does Stern's show but Sammy does. Howard is now in the Sammy camp it looks like.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

Zackly. Just go to youtube and watch any Van Halen performance and then watch a Van Hagar show - there's just no comparison. Dave did it effortlessly and Sammy, well, Sammy tried really hard. But he just couldn't capture the same magic. I don't care how much of a hard-on Ed had for Sam at the time, it just wasn't the same "desperate men in search of desperate treasure" vibe that they had with Dave.
American by birth. Southern by the grace of God.

I watch MONTREAL '84 and get goosebumps...mostly from Dave. I have to admit, he blows the other three off the stage, including Eddie. Maybe the sound quality in that video make it necessary for the visuals to stand out. But that is still maybe my favorite bootleg video of all time.

I do remember being blown away by Eddie's solo in the song 5150 back in the day, but mostly, I found that sort of video footage very fucking embarrassing. Sam just acts like a...twat. Every time he yells "5150" and the crowd starts cheering, I wish the Kennedy sniper men were standing ready in the rafters...
