I never understood the uk only policy for the 3 tracks... up til then thought pr had been stella .. that move worried me ,it made me think people would be forced to rip it if they couldnt get it legit ... which is shit cos i want this to sell as much as possible ....

I don't view asking questions to sort out what's going on around us as negative...
It's like we're on some strange foreign planet in a parallel universe and I'm hoping Mr Spock doesn't alter the time space continuum and beam us back to the Van Halen ain't talking zone..."If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”Comment

Kirk: Well, we've done it before.
McCoy: Sure, you slingshot around the Sun, pick up enough speed - You're in time warp. If you don't, you're fried.
Kirk: I prefer it to nothing.
McCoy: I prefer a dose of common sense! You're proposing that we go backwards in time, find humpback whales, then bring them forward in time, drop 'em off, and hope to Hell they tell this probe what to do with itself!
Kirk: That's the general idea.
McCoy: Well, that's crazy!
Kirk: You've got a better idea?
McCoy: You realize that by giving him the formula you're altering the future.
Scotty: Why? How do we know he didn't invent the thing?

Was thinking again... hate it when that happens... meanwhile back at the ranch this whole ADKOT marketing approach seems like a disjointed global Goat Rodeo...
It's kinda driving my logical business mind nuts...
The surprise exclusives to the 3 fan sites preceding the release of Tattoo was very cool. The sale of the single in NZ a day early made sense time wise... so far, so good.
Then there's the audio recordings of Dave, Ed & Al reminiscing about old times... super cool. But what is this..? Just a rare gem for promotional purposes or part of something more..? Is there more..?
Then there's the release of the video Titled Song by Song - Tattoo with Dave eluding to making some sort of documentary. Song by Song implies there could be 12 more... will there be more? Will this be released on DVD at some point? Staged on some TV channel rockumentary? Piece-mealed out over a period of time as fan exclusives..? Hosted on an official band site that's more than a sales vehicle..?
Then a sneak peek at the Downtown Sessions YRGM... major cool again. We know where and when that coolness is coming.
Then last Wednesday they drop a 90 second clip of Blood & Fire on Rolling Stone and play name that historic demo game and calling it another single release... the fan sites notice full tracks for Blood & Fire and The Trouble With Never available for sale as downloads on amazon.co.uk that claim to have gone on sale 2 days earlier on the 23rd... yet never announced. Will these tracks be available outside the UK for purchase before the album releases? Why the UK only and never publicly announced..?
Next we get the announcement of Stay Frosty and Tattoo debuting on CSI. More 90 second clips show up... but not at the usual places. Why no consistent media placement like the Van Halen Youtube channel..?
Next we get 30 second clips of the whole record... again showing up at some oddball European web site... samples still not posted at iTunes or Amazon primary main sites... WTF?
Leaked/illegal full versions are popping up like weeds now... even with new fan videos... go figure, it was inevitable.
Official release for Australia & New Zealand have been announced as Feb 3rd instead of the 7th... WTF?
Walmart has an exclusive CD and shirt offer. Play.com has an exclusive slip cover offer. What else is there that we haven't dug up that someone in marketing knows about? Y'all do know that coordination between marketing and PR can increase revenue and leaving things to chance that someone on the internet might trip over something isn't a sound & proven business operational approach..?
One would assume a record industry giant like Universal Music Group and Interscope Records would have fairly solid and predicable distribution channels to handle a coordinated global release for a huge internationally known artist... right?
If you follow the time line and events... why does it seem like we've got a fun loving group of drunks with a dart board and several cases of beer and liquor dropping crumbs around the globe for this historic Van Halen release..?
Is this a new form of ADHD marketing and PR..?
Is ZahZoo thinking too much... hell yeah!! But come on... someone had to ask...
Can our contacts at DDE put any headlights on this?
They got you thinking about them...and me as well so mission accomplished?
The thing I don't get is the Amazon.uk surfacing of songs available only regionally?
They had to know that with the internet that that would be a problem.
Unless they had copies of the songs with a partial agreement not to do anything with them until a certain date and someone missed the memo. That's happened with radio stations .
You would figure these things wouldn't happen by accident.
at the same time maybe the "Lets make it an Easter Egg hunt" approach is calculated.
it's hard to imagine otherwise by a company as big as Interscope.Comment
