I respect your opinion; and Sammy hagar was very good with montrose and on his own; but the 78-84 band was maybe the best band in the world at that time. Their was just something about them that stood out. I really think that Eddie need Dave just as much as Dave need Eddie. If you listen to the original and then Hagar; you notice that it two different music playing.

I like Hagar solo like I would like any 70's - 80's average rocker that didn't totally suck, but there is only one guy that can front VH.
Remember, Dave left. You can't blame Sammy for joining back in '86 or VH for taking him, they needed someone.
You can blame VH for not working it out with Dave in '96 - present.
Dave wanted back and wanted to bury the hatchet. Look at Al when MTV asked what he thought of the standing O that they got at the '96 Awards. He is scrambling because he and the rest of them know the truth and don't want to face it.
Eddie, Al and probally Mike just hate the guy, but none the less, they should have stuck it out for a final tour, done it for the fans, at least to give everyone one last chance to see the original.

Chris Holmes, WASP guitarist and high school buddy of Ed Van Halen, has gone on the record in the INSIDE magazine as saying Van Halen wouldn't have gotten SIGNED to a recording contract without Dave in the band. And Holmes hates Dave.
