Are you stoned this early in the AM? "Too Hot" is an awesome tune. And if Kool & The Gang does indeed warm up for VH, it will mark the first time in recorded history that I will bother walking into the arena to hear the opening band, other than that one odd evening The Replacements opened for Tom Petty.

Seriously. I would be ok with going to the casino and seeing Cool and the Gang in the Ice Bar. Security is pretty tight at that bar. But at a Van Halen concert?

You're nuts! Kool and the Gang are perfect openers. FUNK - and besides, this tour is a fucking CELEBRATION!

yeah, and on the next Replacements tour, Tommy Stinson would say "at least we don't have to listen to Free Fallin'."

Is Kool & the Gang like Hootie & the Blowfish (no guy named Hootie)? Or is one of the guys actually called 'Kool'?

I assumed VH wouldn't have an opening act for this media show. Whatever. They always choose weird opening acts anyways. At least we all know the Kool & the Gang songs as opposed to some no name band.

Cool and the Gang At a Van Halen concert.

I guess I am just too old school.

Is not the riff to Van Hagar's 'Best of Both Worlds' a reworking of the riff to Kool and the Gang's 'Celebration'? I reckon so. That coulda been a good VH song if we had heard the version Dave probably worked on, before Hagar got the session leftovers for the 5150 album.

Listen, guys, I'd be cool with Kool and the Gang opening. It's gonna be a party, goddam it. And in terms of attitude, I always though VH with Dave were more in that ball park - I repeat, attitude-wise - than they were in the metal camp.

Or Petty's reaction upon meeting the band: "They said, we really like your song "Running Down A Drain."

I'm cool with Kool & The Gang opening for VH - definitely upbeat music, besides - who the fuck doesn't like Jungle Boogie?

Hell, everytime I hear that song I think of this:

I was just checkin the Cafe Wha? Facebook page to see if there was any info about tonight, and their blurb is interesting:

Cafe Wha? is the legendary Village venue where EVERYONE got their start: Bob Dylan. Jimi Hendrix. Bruce Springsteen. Kool and the Gang. Richard Pryor. Bill Cosby.
Is there something in this connection ... !

The first couple of minutes of this are interesting - at the Wha? they talk about starting there. Whether or not there is any truth in the rumour of Look and the Gang opening for VH, my bet is that they were playing there when DLR spent his summers there.

Aside from that - marvel at how lucky WARF and all those other guys will be to be SO close to the mighty VH. A once in a lifetime experience ...

I won a disco dance contest...lie... I/we finished in the top 4 out of maybe 12 couples .. this was a song that played as if I wrote it towards my highschool romeo and juliet love afair...you see it was too hot to hot for ones so young and foolish..and the brass is fenominal....so, I would sit thru this any day of the week.

                            Love it!

It's the nickname of the founding member, Robert "Kool" Bell.

The reason I asked about this rumor is because I'm really hoping that it's true. It's just simply brilliant. Especially given what the political climate is going to be this summer, things are going to get a bit 'touchy', to say the very least. Bringing these two worlds together would be like a summit for all the real people that just want to have a good time. All the illiterate racist scumfucks are better off somewhere else fighting amongst each other. If you don't dig it, don't fucking go!

I doubt that it makes much of a difference to alot of Van Halen fans, because saying you like Van Halen is just another way of saying you like good music, but there's always that random punk asshole that just doesn't get it.

If Kool And The Gang is on the bill, then I am totally fuckin' there. That's the crowd I definitely want to be a part of.

If it turns out to be true, then something tells me that Dave had a strong hand in coordinating something like that.
                                The man's a genius!
