If it sucks I'll blame LoungeMachine for planting the seed...
Look... it's Dave's melodies and lyrical playground mixed with Ed's genius rhythm style bolted down with Al's foundation. What the fuck could go wrong here? Think about it...
Dave & Ed... Lennon & McCartney... Page & Plant... Angus & Bonn... George & Gracey... Abbott & Costello... Mutt & Jeff... Mo, Larry & Curley... Coke & Ho's... Beer & Pizza...
Some of the greatest combo's stand the test of time and never fail to entertain..."If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”Comment

i don't think for a minute that this album will "suck". Not with Roth and Azoff as bullshit detectors.
Ed &Dave putting music together on a bad day is still gonna be 10 times better than Ed & Sam on a "good" day.
I'm seriously interested in what they dug up from old VH demos and what they ended up using...Trolls take heed...LOG OUT & FUCK OFF!!!

And that Page/Plant Walking Into Clarksdale album left a lot to be desired...

It aint gonna compare to the 6 pack ... that never even entered the equation for me. to much water under the bridge .But I still think a little of the VH magic can go a long way and ive lowered my sights on what a good vh album could be like .
But hey I quite like MWM and CGTSNM and if am using them as a reference point rather than say setting my sights for a new WACF i wouldnt be disapointed if the album had material as least as good as those .fuck your fucking framingComment

Frankly, I'll be ecstatic if they can come up with something comparable to the DLR Band album (with enhanced production and sound quality).
Anyone expecting something that sounds like the original 6-pack is expecting too much. Time waits for no one.Comment

As long as Ed is rocking and his riffs have an edge, and Dave doesn't try to sing too high, it will be good. I don't have any doubts about it sucking, I think it will be good. By the way, these aren't the droids you're looking for. This space for rent.Comment

Depends what your expectations are. Asking any band of that age to replicate the hunger/passion/ambition/innovation of their heyday is asking WAY too much.
Personally I just hope that we don't get something that's a) uninspired, or b) a pastiche of their former glories.
I just want to hear the sound of a BAND playing together and writing tunes that they give a shit aboutThe Power Of The Riff Compels MeComment

It won't be particularly useful for me to listen to this new album with a critical ear in terms of making comparisons to the 6-pack stuff. Taking that route seems bound to end in a letdown. It's not the late 1970s/early 1980s anymore, all of the band isn't there, and the circumstances just aren't the same...thus it seems silly to even expect the release to sound like something the band would have released in 1985 or 1986 had they stayed together.
I will echo the sentiments of others in that one thing that delineated CVH from Van Hagar was a sense of authenticity vs. contrived music. CVH came off sounding like they were honestly enthusiastic about what they were doing, and brought a sense of energy and urgency to the music they were creating. Even when I didn't necessarily care for the results at times back in the day (I, for one, am not a huge fan of every single track on the Diver Down or 1984 albums), the CVH attitude went a long way toward generating goodwill, even concerning the weaker tracks.
This new album may well not end up containing any "new instant classics" (whatever the FUCK that cliche means), and indeed perhaps a few of the tracks will be a bit average. If the integrity, motivations and intent of the band are pure and the energy and effort are on display, we'll all know it from listening. Even if the reasons WHY these things may be true are not always easily put into words, we'll be able to know it from the ears and the gut.
Visceral, dudes.
If the whole biz DOES end up falling totally short and ends up coming across like an undertaking that was best left alone in the first place, well, disappointment is hardly a new experience for most of us here regarding Van Halen, is it?Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment
