So, when you suggested naming the band Van Halen, did you ever think that years later Ed's son would be the freaking band leader???

And where the hell is my Van Halenized shirt that got thrown on the stage in Edmonton in '80???

You always hear about Eddie having been recruited for other bands. I would like to know if Dave was ever recruited by any other bands to leave Van Halen? I would also like to know if Dave ever put a supergroup together who would his players be? Last but not least - did he date Madonna, Martha Quinn and Marilu Henner? Or is date the right word?

          THE ROTH ARMY DLR INTERVIEW

Here they are folks – the questions we would ask David Lee Roth should we get the chance for a sit-down interview before the 5/19 show in St. Paul. Some questions have been revised a bit to make them a little more relevant to the 2012 album and tour. I’ll have a hard copy of the interview in my pocket the day of the show, just in case I get the call. Of course, I’m not really expecting the phone to ring, but better safe than sorry…

Zing!: Hey Dave – what’s the best thing that’s happened to you today?

NIN1211: Any regrets? Be honest – “I have no regrets” doesn’t count. Skipping the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for example?

Zing!: Let’s talk about the new album. You gotta be proud as shit with ‘A Different Kind of Truth.’ How does the recording of this album stack up with the first six – and no “albums are like kids, you love them all” bullshit.

Sadaist: I'd like to know at what point you had your first million dollars in the bank.

Zing!: ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ is challenging – it’s lyrically complex – there are a ton of words and many different ideas happening on this record, which is a very good thing in this age of dumbed down music. Do you worry that today’s generation aren’t up for the challenge?

Sadaist: How many completed/recorded VH songs are gathering dust from the time you reclaimed your rightful spot in the universe in 2007 to the recording of ‘A Different Kind of Truth?’ And will we ever hear them?

Zing!: Back to lyrics for a minute – let’s talk about ‘Stay Frosty.’ Correct me if I’m wrong, but this song seems to be the ultimate example of ‘The Tao of Dave’ ever recorded. There’s nothing else quite like it on the album. Does this song have personal significance to you beyond what you’ve already explained in your song-by-song interview?

DONNIEP: Why hasn't Van Halen released some of the old shows so that we can freakin' buy them???

Zing!: Dave, do you still relate to Huck Finn at this point in your career, or is your personality more in tune with the Duke and the King (the con artists that join Huck and Jim on their adventure) for this album and tour?

BumBahDeeDah: What is the creative process this time around?

Zing!: Change of pace here – let’s talk about your dogs and go beyond your 'Ice Cream Man' intro for this tour. You seem to always have had a love for animals. Did you grow up with pets in the Roth household? Where and when did the training come in? Do any of them travel with you?

Fairwrning: Has anything has been discussed within the band about plans for the next few years?

Zing!: Beyond writing and singing lyrics for legendary rock band, fine art – and illustration in particular – seem to be something you enjoy (based on the material you’ve made available on your official website in the past). Do you draw often, and have you ever considered an exhibition, or a book of your work?

Yount: Do you still flip around on the radio dial?

Zing!: Wolfgang Van Halen in 30 words or less…

Coyote: Will there ever be another book, and, if so, what page of it are you living now?

Zing!: Dave, thanks for your time. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to talk with you. On behalf of everyone at the Roth Army, I’d like to sincerely thank you for the musical legacy of your past – but more importantly, for the amazing effort demonstrated by you and your band mates to satisfy your long time fans with ‘A Different Kind of Truth.’ This album sits comfortably with your first six records with Van Halen, and hopefully marks the beginning of many great things to come!

Yes ma'am, that is true. However, I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to "do you have any regrets." I think the band's plans for the next few years and the Wolfgang question are the toughest - as DLR might want to choose his words somewhat carefully with these. (In an alternate universe where he actually answered these questions in person, that is.)

                      ALTERNATE QUESTIONS:

Q: Give us the low-down on the train cover art. There's more to the story, right?

Q: What's the history of the title: "A Different Kind of Truth?" I feel like Paul Harvey here - but we want "...the rest of the story!"

Q: Tell us one thing about the recording process of "A Different Kind of Truth" that you've never told another living soul.

Q: How has the pre-show routine for 2012 David Lee Roth changed from the 1982 David Lee Roth? Has it changed for the better?

Q: Your tales of past Van Halen tours are legendary, and there's plenty of wild stories to be found in your best-selling novel: 'Crazy From The Heat.' What's the strangest/craziest thing you've seen on this tour so far?

Q: Lennon & McCartney or Rodgers & Hammerstein?

Sorry to veer a little off-topic, but there's a question I've been meaning to ask for a while: On Google+ (a social networking site for people who think Facebook is for Farmville idiots), there's a David Lee Roth fan page, and I'm wondering if it's an official thing -- as in run by DDE -- or just a fan?
