What ever happened to "Big Ed" Anderson?

I remember Roth sued him back in 99' , and to be perfectly honest I don't even remember if Roth was awarded money from him. Did they ever make amends? There is very little on the internet regarding him. I was just thinking about this today and thought I would start a thread about it.

I had to work the VH barricade in 84. Ed Anderson held a meeting showing us the in's and out's of what to do. I just thought he was some security guy which he was but I had no idea he was also Dave's personal bodyguard. What was funny is he said if the crowd really got out of hand signal to Dave and he would use the power of celebrity and the microphone to settle the motherfuckers down. LOL! The main concerne was people getting crushed. We pulled a lot of people out. It actually was a gross job because people were stinky and sweaty. It was also a bummer to be right in front of VH and not able to really watch the show.

He's on that unauthorized DVD - Van Halen: The Early Years. I'm probably in the minority but I love that DVD. Big Ed talks about when Dave hired him. Here's the clip where he discusses it. It's around the 4 minute mark. I'm sure everyone has seen this... but I dig it so fuck it.

I wish Dave's childhood friend, the club days roadie, the guy from Snake and Mark Stone would collaborate on a book with more stories from the beginning. This bands history is so damn engaging!

Your answer to this question is the reason that Dave is still "single". He's the ultimate hedonist and doesn't get all sentimental about the zillions of people he's been associated with. I think Van Halen did an excellent job of keeping up the rowdy image but in reality, they had a top notch excellent crew and their road management was awsome. They treated you well and they really did care about the fans. They wanted you to have a good time and keep you safe. Keeping you guys in the audience safe was Big Ed's job and he took it seriousely. Ed seemed like a real proffessional. I have heard this from others.

Believe it or not, he posted his resume on Linkedin. I didn't think it was the same guy until I scrolled down and read the VH and Dave years. I hesitated posting but then it is public info. If it's intrusive, mod will take this out?

Yeah right... an in-depth, detailed account of pedophile exploits... that will surely give a huge boost to their legacy and current careers!!

To a certain limited degree that element was present back in the day... Given where we are in the 21st Century in that respect, that mindset isn't acceptable on any level any more. Back especially in the 80's Dave and the boys didn't need to go hunting/stalking teenagers... there were plenty of hot 20's/30's women willing to join the party.

When the anxiety subsided I realized that the 2nd it happened someone from security had grabbed a chair. Had I not panicked I would have been inside the barricade at the foot of the stage...I will always wonder how incredible that show would have been had I not bolted...

I worked a couple barricades for different bands. Van Halen brought their own custom made one. It had a step built into is so you could get up higher and it gave you some leverage to pull people out of the crowd and yes it had numbers on it. We were never told about Dave using it to get chicks it was used to identify problems in the crowd. The VH show I worked was general admission with no seats on the floor. It was just a couple thousand people standing and they tend to move forward and people can get pinned and crushed up on the barricade. Dehydration is a problem. They had a big cooler of Gatoraide on the side of the stage for people we pulled out.

The job description was heavy lifting required. I lifted weights so got the job because I looked the part. They just want people that can haul stuff around, haul people around, and follow orders. You do setup and then you eat dinner then you work the barricade during the show and then do the teardown. It's early morning until 2-3 AM. It's a long day.

What's interesting is the venue hired us but when we got our paycheck it came from Warner Brother's in Burbank. I still have the canceled check somewhere.
