Thomas Hayden Church Thrown Out Of Van Halen Gig For Smoking Joint
Actor Thomas Hayden Church was once kicked out of a Van Halen show for puffing on a huge joint.
The Sideways star and his pals thought it would be a great ruse to create the perfect "witch's hat" roll-up for the Texas festival show - but it drew too much attention.
He recalls, "Van Halen was opening for Black Sabbath, so we got our heads together and we're like, 'OK, how can we get some attention...' and so we rolled a huge cigarette.
"(At the gig) I was like, 'Hey, over here, over here...' David Lee Roth comes running over and grabs it right out of my hand, and I'm like, 'Dude, we're supposed to smoke that together...' and he runs to the other end of the stage and the next thing security is grabbing us and they drag us out: 'Get outta here kid and keep your filthy Satan spinach with you!'"
The actor and his pals headed backstage and Lee Roth smuggled them in after recognising his drug buddy, but he told them to keep a low profile.
Hayden Church adds, "We're over by the food table and we're like, 'Don't stare at anybody, act like you're supposed to be here, don't speak to anybody...' and suddenly everybody's parting and my buddy goes, 'Holy s**t, there's Ozzy!.' We were thrown out again."
