Then again, either is better than that pompous, whiny, mouth-breathing Billy Corgan. Yech, fuck that guy. I recall a Guitar World co-interview with EVH and that jerk, and you could really pick up on the fact that even Ed despised the creep.
Even Sharon Osborne couldn't stand him.

Take 1000 guitarist childreen (10 - 15 years old) then ask them who they want to imitate to ? and you would have a list for best guitarists all the time !

She managed the Smashing Pumpkins for a bit. She really bitched about the bald whiny boy.

The best is usually decided by a marketing and PR department. Politics is no different.
So true. Were was big Jim Sullivan who just died and Danny Gatton on the list ? Both were blowaway players !

We live in an age where marketing is more important than substance. If you want to make money, become a legend, or stay in political office, you have to understand marketing or you will be a nobody. Sad but true. It's because of all the media saturation and short attention spans. In fact, I was just talking to the son of Philo T. Farnsworth. He was the guy who invented the technology that made television possible. He said his dad thought television would make education more available to the masses. He said in the late 1950's his dad was sorry he ever invented it because of the low brow programming that was being sold.

I think the internet is turning out to be the same type of thing. It has enormous potential and a few people will used it for that but most people will just use it to burn time on much like television. It's also interesting to note on important things, we are getting less and less choice. Insurance companies, banks, media companies, political parties that matter, ect.. have all been reduced to a few choices controlled by a few people. The 1% if you want to use Occupy Wall Street terms. Then on unimportant stuff we have unlimited choices. Just look at all the selection of trivial consumer goods in any store. It's enormous.

Everyone talks about getting the 1%. The thing is, the 1% understand marketing and they understand what's important. The average person really doesn't. The 1% can buy them off with a cell phone and some donuts. They say 90% of people don't even bother to check their bank statements or go online to see if the balance is what it should be. Talk about a banker's dream. No wonder they just steal people's money. Be an idiot and be treated like one. Sheep get sheered.

Jack White was nothing more than a Jim Martin clone. I saw Eric Johnson on the Hendrix tour and he was in a class by himself. The guys from Los Lobos stole the show, they just plugged in and played. White would have been clearly beyond his depth. Ricky Skaggs is beyond White's ability not to mention Duke Robillard, Guy Mann Dude, Steve Morse, Paco De Lucia, Frank Gamble, Paul Gilbert, Michael Angelo, Christopher Parkening, etc.

The problem with a lot of these polls is they touch on a genre and think that covers the subject.

Personally I'll take Paul Kossoff or Paul Dean, Mike Corby, Paul Stanley, David Henman, Joe Perry, Many Charlton, Mick Ralphs, James Young, Gary Richrath, Rod Price and Brad Gillis over most of the "technical" players for the same reason I think EVH won. EVH ultimately is a melodic guitar player and that reaches listeners. That's what it's about.

Hey, the guy may occasionally eat sloppily with his elbows on the table, but ya have to admit he has taste from time to time. And anyone who might be as demented as I am, that is willing to get up at 6 AM on a Sunday morning (usually with a catastrophic hangover) to turn on the SPEED channel in order to follow an F-1 race, is fucking cool by me.
