John5's playing on Zombie's 'Hellbilly Deluxe 2' is stellar - and he rips it live.
Never seen a single second of TMS, so I can't comment on it - but Haggar's continued insistence that he did anything meaningful or memorable during his tenure in Van Halen is only relevant to the 35-45 soccer moms and yuppie, Hummer-driving nitwits that think they're rocking out when the blast 'Feels So Good.'My karma just ran over your dogma.Comment

I don't think there's any more "dirt" worth hearing about from that side of the camp..."If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”Comment

Actually he didn't insist anything of the kind last night. He said the biggest hit Van Halen ever had was Jump, said that every time they played Panama the crowd went crazy and that Ed was an amazing player, but mainly he kept his trap shut about VH, just like he should have done all along. Anthony said he was hurt by the way he found out he was replaced but said that he understood it and was complimentary of Wolfie, all in all I would say it was a decent performance..........too bad they didn't do that from the start."Don't want 'em to get you goat, don't show 'em where it's hid." - David Lee RothComment

I find it funny that Sammy cant go anywhere without Mike..everybody that talks to Sammy wants VH qustions answered..how many Chickenfoot questions were there?Comment

That's why I'm continually miffed when Spamborita keeps getting asked back to be a guest on a show about metal and hard rock

50% of Chickenshit songs are about Kari Hagar's dusty old vagg --- the other 50% are about tequila.
Nobody wants to talk to Spam or Mike unless they're talking about Van Halen.

the only negative thing Mike said was that they took his image off the album covers when Wolfie joined...and that was a bullshit move and he as right...he also said he did have some input on some of the old demos that were polished up and put on the new album....they asked about going after royalties and he said it wasn't worth it......now how much input he had well never knowComment

And how does he feel sitting next to that stupid fuck who called him "a spineless wonder"???
Of course, that would mean no more Sammy on the show and no Eddie in the future. Big fucking deal.American by birth. Southern by the grace of God.

Exactly. And not one of the three dolts asked him about his input on the records. I would have asked did he play on all the records? Did he write his own bass lines? Why didn't he ever tell Eddie to fuck himself and then cranked his bass amp to 11?

This discussion has taken place before on here - it may be unfair to bass players and drummers (amongst others), but song publishing is based on what is transcribed into notation to 'represent' a song - and that is words and top line melody (vocal line) and chord changes. That's it. That's sheet music for ya - and that's what the whole music publishing industry is built upon.
Whatever Mike contributed, if it wasn't lyrics, vocal melodies or the chord structure then the stance of 'I wouldn't pursue the matter to get royalties' is just totally disingenuous.
There is probably fack all, from a publishing point, to pursue - unless it was something along the lines of, 'oh, back in '74, we swore to be all for one and one for all, no matter what'.THINK LIKE THE WAVESComment

I usually record TMS and watch it at a later date but when I saw the cut ins for the Sam & Mike show I immediately canned the recording. Wasn't going to watch that ball licking fest....Comment

If you read most of the interviews in which every Van Halen album was recorded the band played live as a threesome in the studio and it's known fact that overdubs and punch in's were very few and far between... even for most of Ed's guitar solos. The main exceptions were keyboards and vocals being done separately.
In the writing department... Ed generally established the primary rhythm and riff structures which established the root key in which the songs were played. Mike took over from there and then aligned the bass composition within Al's drum structure and the vocal melody. So in technical terms Mike composed the bass portion around and within Ed and Al's parts... also aligned with Dave and that other asshole's vocal melodies.
All this talk and the basis for even questioning this... stems from internet bullshit that fools and fuckin idiots made up to put down Mike's playing ability and stature in the band's legacy from 1974 -2004 because he made a poor choice in friends and musical alliances with the red jackass.
Mike was an integral part of the Van Halen sound and legacy of debauchery for 30 years. You can't take that away by replacing his picture on an album cover... the heart of it is in every record album, cassette, 8-track, CD and DVD produced with the name Van Halen on it... Although Mike's voice and bass didn't appear on ADKOT or the writing credits... there's a touch of him and his spirit on that record from the 6 or so songs retooled by Ed and Wolf from original VH demos."If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”Comment
