I'm already questioning his sanity...
I get the artistic expression of tattoos... the hula girls... cool. The Roy Rogers pistols on his hips... semi-strange, but whatever.
The dragon across his whole back I thought was over the top... now carrying that to full upper body coverage with short sleeves. I don't know ladies and germs... There's something not right about it... he turns 60 this year, for Christ's sake.
Gawd damn we finally got Ed to wear a fuckin shirt on stage... and now Dave turns his old ass into a fucking Japanese billboard... WTF happened to singing and entertaining for a living?
Some rappers, for example, started out with no tattoos and now they're pretty much covered. Something to do with "maintaining the remnants of their masculinity" and "getting screwed by the industry"...Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

I see your point of view...
The only thing I'll say defending Dave, having lived in Japan for about 3 1/2 years, is that it obviously appears that he's really immersed in Japanese culture, and I can understand that....
It's really fascinating, and I regret not doing more travelling around the country.... I was too focused on hitting the bars and messing with the girls....
Yeah, I think the full upper body tat is a bit too much for someone his age.... But I do understand it in a cultural point of view....Eat Us And Smile - The Originals

Dave has always had a history of immersing himself in whatever he is interested in, at any given time. I don't think this is out of character for him, at all.
Personally, I think Dave is overly intelligent, thus the reason for his varied and changing interests.
I think every single move Dave makes in life, is very calculated.Comment

I just figure body art is more palatable on the young...
