Mike DOES play on the new tracks...

Just picked up the new best of CD and after going over the liner notes with a fine tooth comb I have not found any evidence of Mike not playing on the new tracks. He doesn't get a writing credit on the new songs but it doen't say he didn't play them. Melodicrock.com (which I love) obviously received some misinformation.

At the end of the Dave CD graphics it lists the band and what they played etc.
At the end of the Sammy CD graphics including the 3 new songs it lists the band and what they played etc.

I will say this (playing Devil's advocate): there's no reason he didn't play. He is definitely singing back-up. But the bass is definitely not as defined...it sounds more like the bass on VH3, which was Ed's work. As for the writing credit thing, Sam has stated before that Mikey is a hired hand. If I'm not mistaken, he also didn't get credit for the new songs on BEST OF VOLUME 1. The band forced Mike into either becoming a hired hand and losing his 25% share or being fired. There's no way they'd give him song royalties.

Furthermore, in Sam's unpublished autobiography, it's hilarious to hear him mention that is makes no sense for Alex to ever get any money for writing considering he writes nothing!! Now, of course, that fat fuck is screeching away with Alex...

That was the question.. In your first post you said,

"but it doen't say he didn't play them"

I just wanted clarification. Not saying he didn't play and saying he did play are two separate things.

When Dave got back in the band in 96 he said they basically had fired Mike. I think it's been a bumpy road with Mike on bass. I don't know how it is they get him back every tour.

Read a review for the best of both worlds:

                              Album Mini-Review:
As the title suggests, this collection covers the high points of Halen's Sammy Hagar years as well as many of the highlights from the David Lee Roth years. That means the only problem with this album is that there are Sammy Hagar songs on it. (Two words: skip button.) Anyway, sometimes you just want to hear Eddie play.
