For an 8 year old, he's good, but as DLR Engine says he also way too sloppy (too many bum notes).

When I was 14 I could do hammerons and the feedback, and the bending thing. But I couldn't learn the piece of shit known as Pretty Woman and still won't, but some mexican kid down the street that can and does play it gets all the local attention you'd think he's a star!

I applause anybody that can get up in front of people and speak publicly, let alone play, at fucking 14 years of age. I did, and it was pretty scary then - adults who never did it will never understand that part of being young and trying to perform. They only think in terms of "good" or "bad" in relation to what they know as adults.

I dunno GAR thinking like that gave us Donnie Osmond and the Jackson 5.

I don't go for the 'he may be shit but he's really young' angle.

Plus in comparison to young classical musicians this guy is absolutely nothing.

              Oof! Big Bad Sesh...

The kind of guy that goes up to your fridge and says your kids can't fucking draw to save themselves...

              Cheers!

Hey, when you're young and don't know the limitations the world of people out there want to place on the fun you're having, you just do it and try to improve and do better at it everyday.

                - all the young kids who saw Donnie Osmond get rich off that first single, "Puppy Love" saw dollar signs at the thought that they might be capable of it too. Just like their folks who pushed 'em; its just that more people thought Donnie's fridge sketches sounded good enough to participate in financially and actually buy a copy.

I think the guitar kid is actually trying very hard of his own will but that's my opinion.

The kid is only 8 years old, not 14, and i think some of you are being a little hard on him.
Sure he's sloppy, for hands being half the size they should be for that Jackson flat neck, i'd say he's damn good.

I'd like to hear what Edward sounded like at 8 years old.

The true question to me though, is will he be able to write his own material or will he end up being just another Eddie Clone, THAT WE DON'T NEED.

It would be interesting to follow his progress through the next several years.

There was some English kid of I dunno about 12 in the late 80s who was meant to be the next great thing. His dad had him playing gigs all over the place on national TV and in marquees at rock festivals. He appeared as the kid in Steve Vai's 'The Audience is Listening' video. He played an Ibanez Gem guitar and could play the EEAS version of Tobbaco Road note for note.

                    Where is he now?

Fuck knows. Completely disappeared off the radar after about 6 months.

                    As they always do.

                    Cheers!

I remember a kid like that on the Arsenio Hall show, and he vanished as well.
Thing is, once boys discover girls their whole outlook changes, lol. or they just become teens and become burned out on playing.

Chances are they are being pushed to hard.
My daughter wanted a guitar, so i got her one. then she wanted a harmonica, so i got her one. then she wanted a keyboard, so i got her one...but i don't push her to play any of them and so far, the keyboard is her preferred instrument. So now i have her in piano lessons twice a week and she is talking about a drum set now, lol.

I'll rpovide her the tools, but i won't push her to use them any more than asking her to make some noise with me and teaching her how to put the notes together.
By the way, she is really doing well on the piano and loves it.
It makes me proud to hear the teacher praise her...makes me all warm inside, lol.

                        That's very cool.

My worry would be that they start to look on it as a chore like I did after 5 years of accordian lessons...

That's how i look at playing live today, lol.
I used to be pumped abut gigs, but these days i hate moving the gear from place to place so i don't even bother.

My giggin days are over, sad but true...I play for myself when the mood strikes, and then it isn't for very long at all.

"Chore" is a very good descriptive term for how i feel about it at this point in life.
It may change in a couple years, who knows, I am just tired of the game right now.
It certainly was never about the money, lol.
