I remember Ed saying he got Townsend's number from Pete Chen of Rod Stewart's band...

I miss Musician. Great mag. I got rid of a bunch of them after the first move. Would be nice if they showed up on Google docs or something.

If Dave goes, VH should close up shop or do instrumental soundtracks for adult films

I miss that mag, too! Really well written and put together!

I still have the one from '83 with Dave and Ed on the cover with the quote, "The Oddest Couple. Will It Last?"

            Nice time capsule material.

In that Van Halen Unleashed (pffft) MTV special from '86, I recall Al being the one who prattles of the names Collins, Townshend, etc... I think he even mentions Mike Rutherford, which gives every indication just how aimless and clueless they were. And they arrived at... aimless and clueless.

I got into Musician after the Dave and EVH cover.

I laughed when Al brought up Rutherford's name...he doesn't sing, and it sounded like Ed wanted "all stars" on the vocals.

                  It made absolutely no sense.

Yes. I was one of the original webmasters for the atomic punks web site when it was owned and operated by Sarge. I was the guy who went out to the shows taking pictures and doing interviews back when this site was the dlrarmy.com it was lots of fun. blueyedmurder was the main guy involved with that site as well as here. I think most of our early success was owed to him.

Before the message board opened up in May 2000 the original webbies were Sarge (founder) , Thatartguy and Daveman. Shortly after the online community started Pojo and brownsound1 became a webmaster, then me. Sarge soon bought the dlrnd.com (David Lee Roth News Desk) after Mike Blair stepped down and that was operated by me, houseofpain and Mike B (no affiliation to the other Mike) After that Commee became a webmaster as well as Blueyedmurder... Then the Roth Army closed shop. That's when Von Halen opened up DDLR.com.

Anyways... The 2nd coming in the mid 2000's brought along the Mezro era followed by VA Beach, and now Von halen and Sesh... Somewhere down the line Brett from vhlinks got the punks and they weren't promoted here anymore, but the atomic punks were endorsed by us for many years. There was never a better tribute band than Ralph and BYoung... It was brilliant! Sorry for the lecture.

                      Yeah, no way.

                      Chris Cornell ??????????

You gotta be on smack !!!!

I fucking HATE that piece of shit and his Black Hole Sun whinning voice. Watch the Micheal Mann movie, Colllateral, and there is a scene with a solo tune from that Seattle greaseball sissy douchbag, I swear to god I would rather be deaf than hear that curly haired sissy putz sing. He is the Bon Jovi of the 90's, all the greasy go no where people with nothing to live for and wish they had a Harley Davidson like him. He is the OZZY of the generation.

I threw Cornell out there for two reasons. One, I happen to like him. Euphoria Morning still heavy in my I-Pod rotation. Two, if Ed were to do a project with someone else, as much as I would prefer it be someone offbeat and out of the blue or a complete unknown, I feel he would gravitate towards someone of notoriety.

Many moons ago, I had heard John Mellancamp mention a possible acoustic collaboration with him. Bullshit or not, I'd be more interested in that than the efforts he recently put forth with Ladies Love Cool James.

Again, not talking about replacing Dave here, in fact, not many straight up vocal only characters come to mind. Mostly singers w/ geetars. A collaboration with Joe Walsh might be interesting. Another crack with Brian May (who needs a distraction to keep from further fucking up Queen), Alex Chilton would have been an off beat, out of the blue, excellent choice had the poor guy not passed on. A lesser known like Damon Johnson (Brother Cane/Thin Lizzy) might work. Hell, in that vain, so might Tom Kieffer.

Sadly, once VH is done, I doubt he'll do anything outside of popping up on stage with a future Wolf band for fun or simply continue on with EVH product development. You know, flip flops, beer coozies and such.

My apologies if I left anyone out.

I know there was a couple more webmasters who were graphic guys but they didn't post here.

I wonder what ever happened to Blueyedmurder...
