A lot of people (mostly the Hagar sheep over at Links, and the Pasture Dump, back in the day) like to bitch about how shitfaced Dave was at this gig, but the thing is, it wasn't Dave, it was all 4 of them.

Ed, Al, Mikey, they were all fucked up, and they all made some very obvious mistakes, which anybody who has watched the entire concert can tell you.

And so fucking what? It was a great goddamn show. While some other well known bootlegs (Largo 82, for example) might have been technically better performances, they weren't as entertaining.

And if it's not entertaining then who the fuck wants to see it?

Sadly that's what's lacking from the current Van Halen tours..... it's not just Michael Sobolewski. Yeah, they're old farts now and they don't party so much anymore, so it's to be expected. And the musical performance is still solid, for the most part.

But damned if there ain't something missing.........

The agent for which to craft a buzz with. If only they (primarily Eddie) could handle it. Just enough to take the edge of is all that's required. I don't think Ed was trashed during the '07 shows, but he was clearly loosened up by a drink or three. Totally sober, he's a regimented, disciplined player copying his records live. With a little bit o' the sauce in him, he's a bit more free wheeling with his improv within the songs.

Spontaneity . This is them collectively getting out on the thinnest branch and not caring if it breaks, but it doesn't break. Just leaves you amazed.
I don't know that Eddie's playing constantly like he did in the old days, with all the work he does with his products (not counting the flip flops obviously)
This is an amazing show, as Is Largo.

Much as I'd like some pro-shot CVH footage, I can understand why they wouldn't want to release that...........

Abolutely! They were like a locomotive with no brakes barrelling down the tracks. You didn't know what was going to happen but you just had to see it.

Yeah I've been trying to say same for awhile. Most like to throw shit down on Dave for being so wasted here... but all 4 were pretty hammered.
That there was a full day of partying at the biggest f'ing show VH ever played. But still captures a legendary night

And as wasted as Dave was... .he was still doing his high kicks, spins, jumps, etc... And didn't fall over once. I wouldve been on the ground if I was that hammered trying to play!

I thought the band had the rights. VH was pretty controlling about their creative/video back then. And are pretty much the only band from this show that doesn't have a DVD out of this. Just figured the band was blocking it?!?
