Man, I say Brian Young is the guy for DLR... I saw them here in NYC last October and they tore The Beacon Theater APART!!! John's a rediculous player, but Young's got that rawness like Eddie, kinda... great power, and feel... Not to mention his technique is fuckin BANANAS!!!!

Yeah, but Young's just an Eddie-clone. A damn fine one (out Eddie's ol' EVH himself on the classics these days), and that is all well and good for Dave's MO live these days, which is essentially a Van halen tribute stamped with the authenticity of his participation.
Think the reason someone mentioned Sykes is that Sykes has the ability to write as well as play.
Roth came out fighting with the DLR Band, and if his next album was in that style vs. Diamond Dave, that'd be fine with me.
If he does manage to put out a strong album of original material, he should do it the service of giving it some play next time he heads out on the road. Too much classic Van Halen tunes (and the same classic Van Halen tunes) over the last several years from DLR and not enough solo material live.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

This last leg of the tour with Brian Young and the Asian dude on 2nd guitar moved a bit away from the Van Halen tribute band thing he was doing. He played the Dave solo tunes you would expect. He did the California Girls/Just a Gigolo horn stuff with the 2 guitars. So he hasn't forgotten he has those tunesComment

I'd like to see John Lowery come back. His songwriting on DLR Band gave dave some of the best orginal music he has had to work with in fifteen years. I would love to see them do it again as long as they get a good producer rather than the do it yourself budget mentality that ruined the soind quality of DLR Band. Brian Young is a terrific player but do we have any evidence that he could be a great songwriter?Comment

Those guys??? Brian Young is playing with DLR currently. The only one that isn't is Lowery, and he took what he thought was a better gig with Manson.

I'd go with Lowrey. He's a really gifted player, and can write cool tunes with Dave, which we all know. Young is a EVH clone, and believe it or not, he's not the best one i've heard. He is decent, but i wouldnt put him in the same class as Lowrey. True, i havent heard if whether or not Young can write originals, too....but so far i'd have to give it to Lowrey hands-down. Over either of them i'd prefer the real EVH to be jamming longside Dave.....wait, that's GONNA happen next year! Oh well.....

Young just does the EVH clone thing to pay bills. He is a much different player when he is not being asked to duplicate Eddie. Hopefully we will get an opportunity to hear him shred in his own style.
