Even though the CVH tours were fairly scripted (mostly Dave) and didn't change much from show to show, there was still an authenticity to it and it was their real lifestyle no doubt. No acting. I wouldn't say it was choreographed or forced, but was well 'rehearsed' and definitely mind-blowing.
When doing tribute bands these days you kinda have to do the act. although it can be hard to take at times. And especially w VH it's very hard to replicate the act w/o coming off cheesy. But whatever...
I saw Atomic Punks w Ralph about 4 times. Still think he does the best DLR and hard to top them. They mostly came out in street clothes (at first) just celebrating the Mighty VH music. I think towards the end they got into dressing the part more (mostly Russ/guitar). But he's a smoking guitarist.
Anyway I saw Fan Halen in 2013. Was pretty good all around. What I liked is (1) they do pay attention to the details, stage setup, clothes and (2) seemed they did more deep cuts than I've seen w others. Think I saw em do Drop Dead Legs, I'll Wait and maybe Whisky.
Some orig Atomic Punks to add to the fire...
