    VH fanbase dwindling

The following is the last three Van Halen albums and their first week of sales:

    BOV1 (2 new Roth tunes) - 233,000 units sold
Van Halen 3 (Cherone) - 190,000 units sold
BOBW (3 new Hagar tunes)- 138,000 units sold

The amazing thing is VH3 and BOBW had a lot more going for them then BOV1, but yet, BOV1 on the strength of only 2 new Roth songs, was the only one to debut at NO.1 and sold much more than the others. BOV1 has sold 3 million compared to about only 500,000 for VH3. By these numbers BOBW should sell even less than VH3.

VH3 was supported by a tour and it was an album full of new songs.

BOBW is supported by a so-called 'blockbuster reunion' tour and has 3 new songs with the 'legend' Sammy Hagar. TV commercials are all over the place and you get 2 CD's for almost the price of one at most places. What sheep could resist that?

BOV1, on the otherhand, was severely handicapped.

    Take into account:

There was no tour to support BOV1.
David Lee Roth openly said do not buy the record.
There was an internet boycott of the record.
The video was canceled for MWM.
Bad blood between Roth and Warner meant very little ad support from Warner.

But, basically, people did not want to honor the boycott. The lure of 2 new songs with Roth was just too great. This album sold pretty much on word of mouth and sold almost twice as much as BOBW has in it's first week.

The numbers speak loud and clear:

3 million have bought BOV1. 500k have bought VH3 and even less will buy BOBW.

    The conclusion:

Van Halen is nothing without David Lee Roth

      1984 sold 10+ million units
      51..sold 5.5 million units
The fanbase starting dwidiling in 1986 around 4.5 million and it has seen a steady decrease since then:D
      To bad so fuckin sad...............NOT.:D

Fuck you pebbles, neckbrace, donutboy and last but not least spam, for single handedly destroying the greatest band to come out of the GOOD OLE' USA

        I've been saying for years

Because I look at Billboard every week and have since around 84' I've known for years that VH's peak was in 84' and IT NEVER REACHED that level again with Hagar. Not even close. All of the idiots hid behind 5150 "it was their first #1 album" not bothering to check the numbers and realize it only sold HALF what 1984 did. This new tour's problems regarding lack of interest only prove what I've been saying for years. VAN HALEN's legacy is with DAVID LEE ROTH. No 2 ways about it.

The hilarious thing about this is they are opening themselves up to the comparison because people will go the bin in the record store, see 2 "Best Ofs" and basically pick between Roth and Hagar's new tunes.

The Roth tunes were pretty shitty too, but at least the lyrics weren't embarassing.

I would never have realeased this new set without pulling all of the old copies first.

The Van Halens have been forcing the fans to choose between Dave & Sammy right from the start. If the Van halen camp (Sammy included) would have just kept their big mouths shut, Dave would not have had to defend himself and the fans could have at least supported the band and checked out this tour. They made their bed so fuck em, If Dave's not there neither am I. They wanted me to choose and I have.(way back in 85)

                  Roth Songs on BOV1

Roth songs on BOV1 are "shitty",--- the medication your doctor has given you isn't working.

                    ?????

The Roth tunes were amazing...especially ME WISE MAGIC. A few people have bitched about them because they didn't sound "80's" enough...whatever that means.

dont let the sheep tell you otherwise, they are not that good of songs. Me Wise Magic is a good track but Cant Get this Stuff is not very good. What were the sales before 1984? i seem to remember reading that they were not very strong, although i very well could be wrong...i dont feel like looking it up now, i think i remember seeing the sales werent that strong.

i like the hagar stuff, but am not going to buy a second best of. it has nothing to do with who is singing the new songs, at least for me. i go to ITunes and downloaded them from there. There is no reason for me to pay $20 or more for a CD that I already own. Its a shitty, shitty release regardless of the new songs. I wouldnt buy it if it had new songs from DLR on there...just would get the new songs. They will see 2 best ofs and have to pick but which one are you going to pick? the more expensive double disc? no, come on now.

and i disagree, BOV1 had more press than best of both worlds did when it came out. even though there was an internet boycott, what that do, take away couple hundred cds tops? negative press is the best kind and VH had a lot of it. VH is not selling the new CD at concerts, which is an odd move, nor are they mentioning it during the show, other than this is a new song. kind of strange that they arent promoting it there

Everything Dave has done has been better than Spermy Gaybar. If you don't like the Dave "herd", don't let the door hit you where the good LORD split you
