Well, yeah... that's the logical, thinking approach.

I have always wondered over the years why the various Roth fan sites have been 99.5% male dominated... hard to ignore all the man love gushing about...

We thought we’d have some end of year fun with a list of the finest front men, and women, in rock history. As regular readers will know this is not the first list we’ve put together, and every one previously has caused a good deal of controversy. While there is always some subjectivity to these lists we have done our best to come up with a democratic top 50. We have trawled the internet and come up with our list, based on nearly two dozen other lists that have been compiled by radio stations, magazines, and other reputable sources.

As always we’d love to hear from you as to what you think about the list, who we may have missed and who you perhaps think shouldn’t have made the list at all. We are dusting off our hard hats and flak jackets!

      50. Lemmy
      49. Anthony Kiedis
      48. Henry Rollins
      47. Ian Brown
      46. Tom Petty

Short list to replace the no-names:

      Rick Springfield
      Ted Nugent
      David Coverdale
      Kip Winger
      Brett Michaels
      Huey Lewis
      Rod Stewart
      Mark Farner
      Dave Peverett
      Paul Stanley
      Phil Lynott
      Sebastian Bach
      Billy Idol
      Rob Halford
      Ronnie Van Zant

Hell, I've seen Peter Frampton have a great show.

IMO, it's how you handle the 'arena' crowd. The sheds, the 'festivals', the Bonaroo's, are for the Sammy Hagar types.

Start from David Lee Roth circa 1981 and work backwards. There has never been anyone better.

Now we're talkin'. Anyone who remembers Grand Funk, will surely know that Mark Farner had the look, played guitar, organ, harmonica AND danced his ass off while singing as well.

Fuck "lists" anyway, but thank YOU for putting Mark Farner into consideration!!!!!!

A bit confused here. Wouldn't a "front-man" be the leader of a band not a solo artist? Little Richard was known as a solo artists for the most part and so was James Brown I thought?

Here is the complete list of the MAX Legends Poll: Greatest Frontman in order:

                          1. Michael Hutchence
                          2. Freddie Mercury
                          3 Bon Scott
                          4. Robert Plant
                          5. Jon Bon Jovi
                          6. Mick Jagger
                          7. Jimmy Barnes
                          8. Bono
                          9. Jim Morrison
A Devil liked INXS a great deal for what they did, but to rank Hutchence above Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison is absolutely ridiculous, considering how much Hutchence's stage personna borrowed from both of them. Arguably, without them, Michael would not have existed. Or he would have been doing Devo imitations or something (listen to some early singles like "Simple Simon" and you'll understand)

By some accounts Jim Morrison was a rather patchy front man if he had a shandy or two first.

Controversial as this may sound Joey Ramone , great band not a great front man( or wasnt when I seen them)_ . Unless a lanky streak of piss who doesnt move is ya thang.

Though the more I mull over this I am blurring front man with show man .

I'll take Jimmy over Hutchence any day.

And finally - somebody else gets my point on the Ramones...I know, I know. They were the greatest band that ever plugged in. I get it. Joey was the coolest front man on the planet too - he just oozed coolness.
