Van Halen Article in AV Club

For those not familiar, AV Club spun off from the Onion. It is their more serious look at arts and entertainment. IMO, it is also one of the better places to find well-written and interesting reviews and articles about TV, movies and music.

That being said, found this today. It is an OK article and is generally positive in its view of VH. Could have used a little bit of fact checking, however.

It's an interesting read... I don't agree with the premise that the 1978 Van Halen record and the look and stage act of the band spawned the 80's decadent rock influence aspects. Musically... yes it set a new standard.

But VH's 1978 stage act and look on their first tour was pretty tame and not all that flashy.

The spandex, big hair and huge stage was much more a product of starting somewhat during their World Vacation tour supporting VH II and really took shape during their World Invasion tour supporting WACF.

Very interesting - thanks for posting. I have to disagree with the writer's fixation on VH's (or rather, Dave's) alleged misogynistic tendencies. I've never seen that in VH. Sure, their music was about having a great time and sleeping with beautiful women, but isn't that what pretty much every straight guy wants?
