People can argue all day about the VH vs Van Hagar music and singers, but if anyone REALLY thinks any of Ed's playing in the Van Hagar era can be compared favorably to the Dave era days, that dude doesn't know a darn thing about guitar playin'Comment

Well Eddie was more experimental back in the DLR era, but that's really all thats changed. Van Halen & Van Hagar are two totally different sounding bands, but that's not really all of Sammy's fault. Eddie changed the sound himself when he started using a lot of keyboards. In my opinion, 0U812 was probably the worst of all Van Hagar albums because of all the keys. But to say that the solo's from the Van Hagar era can not be compared to the Roth era isn't true. I'm a guitarist, and I've been playing for 12 years. I can play Roth era Van Halen usually without any problem, but the Hagar era is another story.... Eddie's fast, and technical, and has been since the start. It's all a matter of taste. Personally I like all three era's of Van Halen, so I'm open to everything. You have to listen to the songs with an open mind, I mean it's all about the music really.
My favorite solos:
The Dream Is Over
Mean Streets
One I Want
Respect The Wind (Not really a solo, just awesome guitar)
I'll Wait
Once
Aftershock
Can't Get This Stuff No More
Without You
Poundcake
Me Wise Magic"'Cause stayin' 'round here takes patience It's like a full time occupation"

I'll say this...Ed's rythmn work has gotten better since the Roth era.....not saying that he wasnt great then....but his leads have always been stellar, his rythmns have actually went up a few notches, IMO. I can play VH from every era....i love it all. There's gold to be mined from the first album to now. Peace."Simply said....God is Ed!!"Comment
