This is an old article but it sounds good for our Roth Army
brothers and sisters down under.....
And The Van Halen Stories Keep On Coming
David Lee Roth says he isn't holding his breath for a Van Halen reunion, which is good because they haven't asked him back. They've asked Sammy Hagar.
While on tour in Europe, Roth spoke with Norway's Metal Express. "If the Van Halen band was ever to do a reunion, super, but I wouldn't old my breath" he said in their interview.
One thing Roth says Van Halen will never be able to do is imitate his voice. "The one thing you cannot duplicate ever is the sound of the human voice that makes me sound this way" he told Metal Express. "If you think about it, the London Philharmonic Orchestra is really a Tchaikovsky tribute band. Tchaikovsky has been dead for many years and so has most his rhythm section so why do we keep going to the concert? Because an instrumentalist can take the music beyond where they find it."
The Van Halen reunion tour with Sammy Hagar has been the worst kept secret in rock and roll this year, with an announcement expected soon for what will be one of the biggest tours of the second half of 2004.
A second volume of Greatest Hits is also said to be in the works with three new songs with Sammy included.
Watch this space.
Incidentally, Australia will get a David Lee Roth tour before Van Halen and Sammy. Roth will be in Australia in the second half of the year.
